2000watts.. light mover question.

Hi, posted this in general grow forum.. no replies, so thought I would give it a hot here. I am upping my grow and adding another 1000watt HPS to my flowering room.. I want to go with a light mover for an 8X8 area. My question is, can I expect diminished yeild from the light mover, or is this area still good. I would be quadrupiling my flowering area with this add on. I am currently in a 4x4, so this would be a big step up for me. I just don't want to drop another grand into the room if it's not "worth" it.

I also was hoping to get some input on the benefit of bloom boosters. Anything to them, or are they a waste of $$.

Thanks guys and dolls.

well, that's what I was thinking too.. but I was wondering is if there was diminished yeild from the lights being moved.. and if it was noticable. I wouldn't think so, but just looking for other's experience too. What size did you get?
Let me know for sure how you find it - I haven't bought it yet, but should be in the mix soon.

Intelli Drive Light Rail 3.5 10 rpm w/ 6' Rail with 600HPS just installed it. i had 9 plants under one light now i should able to do like 16-20 i think. the outer ones weren't getting much light anyways even with me rotating them once a day. with the light moving heat isn't really a problem and I'm going to keep light little bit closer now hoping to slow down the stretch. I'll keep you posted in the up coming days how I like it.

dude, ok, so your ADDING 1000w more. To a larger area, with more plants..... I would be willing to bet money that your yield will not suffer, but will be grately increased!

Cuz you said you have:
1000w in a 4x4 space with 12 plants.....
And NOW you want:
2000w in a 8x8 space with 48 plants PLUSS a light mover.....

Yea..... What's up, I'd be sleeping on a bed of nuggets each night if I was you!

lol, I'll bet you on it! If your yield decreases, I'll GIVE you an OZ off my harvest!.. But if it's the other way around, you gots to be the one giving ME that OZ off your harvest... Waddaya say? Intrigued? lol :)

Yield is more determined by total watts rather than coverage. I started with a 1000w hps in a 4x4 area. I netted around 24 oz consistently (sativa). With the same strain, I put that 1000w on a mover, over an 8x4 area with double the plants, and got the same, 24 oz. the buds on the ends of the 8x4 area were worthless. I would say rather than waste effort filling the 8x8 area, and dealing with the movers, just put 2 1000w over an 8x4 area. I was gung ho about the mover at first but it just wont really increase overall yield in most cases. Movers work great though when you have an odd length to cover with one light... like a 5' area with one 600w hps you could cover good with a 3' mover... for instance.

Same here.........the ends just dont get enough light.....but using the light mover in a smaller area works good........since the light travels at different angles it gets into places where a stationary light cant.....but as far as increasing coverage area it didn't work like I thought it would either......

I know total yeild goes up.. I was more interested in what the two guys who use them posted.. how they end up with the same total yeild with a mover or not using same wattage over increased area.
I didn't say adding another 1000 watts to my grow would make a lb go down to 1/2 lb by adding more plants and light.
As you read what the other guys answered.. they are seeing diminished yeild on the extremities of thier room.. basically nullifying the results you'd expect to achieve having not used one.

So, based on that knowlege, I think I will just double my room size to 4X8 and go with 20ish plants.

based on what theWinter and jcd are saying- I am adding a 600watt MH for my veg area.. would benefit from using a smaller mover.. think I may see what I can find for that.

Thanks for the help! Any further input is still appreciated!

no worries bud! I just wanted to try to explain better to everyone - not just you -what I was asking, so that if others didn't see what I was getting at either because I was being too vauge.. I may not get help from some people. I don't always ask things very clearly...
I'm not as big a dick as I am on TV ;)

I added a light mover a couple of grows ago and it didn't increase my yield a bunch but I got more even growth. I got a small increase in yield and more, better quality buds overall.:weed:
