Started one of four seeds from Nirvana. Sprouted in two days. This is soil grow under a 250w MH lamp right now. Will bump the light to 400w when it get another set of leaves. Will be using Botanicare nutrients.

Gelato is one of my favorite strains, but I have never grown it before. Once the weather starts warming, it might be moved out doors, but for now the plan is HID's.

Assembled my old grow tent, it turned out to be worn out. Purchased a replacement and pulled my dual fixture reflector assembly out of storage. Tested the 400w and 600w ballasts, everything works. I will be setting the tent, ventilation and lights up over the next few weeks. Forgot just how much light a 1000 watts is!

The plant is doing great and the roots are taking hold.

Started the plant 25 days ago under the lights. Started with my 250w MH system for getting it going and shifted to my 400w MH for the grow as it is just one plant (for now). My 400w MH bulb failed and I was left with either 400w HPS or a move to my 600w digital MH. Made the move...

Damn...I forgot how bright the 600w really is!

I have the bubble bucket in testing, will put the next sprout in that system.

Transplanted the plant from the starter pot straight into a 2.5 gallon...might regret that, usually I would have had a 1 gallon as the second pot. Roots were gorgeous when I slipped it out of the starter pot, pretty white and distributed nicely. Hoping the larger pot size will not shock it too much.

Have some yellowing on the lowest leaves, not too happy about that. Feel I relied on the soil to provide everything for a while, must be water leeched. Added some Masterblend to the soil and it seems to have perked up.

Also raised the light to get a little stretch going. The core is super dense and the internodal spacing shorter than I would like. Could just be the strain too. Never grown this one before.

Anyway, excited!

The plant has recovered from its shock after transplant and seems to be doing well. Raised the light up to get it to stretch a little, the internodal spacing is way too short. Happy though!

Also fired off another in a bubble bucket. It is just breaking out of the block and it will be fun to see how these two plants compete.

Mixed up full strength Masterblend for the soil plant and 1/2 strength for getting the hydro plant going.

What hood are you using and how far above plant?
It appears to be to far away to me and if heat isn’t a issue I would push it closer

Sun System, dual fixture with a 600w MH. I had it down low, there is enough air moving through the tent that I can have the lamp as close at 14". I had it at about 18" and ended up with no internodal spacing. I raised it to about 24" stretch it a little.

Also, transplanted it mid last week and I know that shocked it. The roots are starting to spread and everything has perked up. Definitely has grown over the past few days.

The Soil Plant is starting to grow out well. It has stretched about a half inch since I raised the lamp and I will let this go to about mid week and then I will lower the lamp again. Watered it, been three days since last watering and the soil was dried to about 2". Still watering around the periphery of the pot to draw the root growth to fill the pot.

The Hydro Plant is starting to stabilize. I accidently clipped one of the 1 pointer leaves when moving it into the wool block. It is still growing so I guess it was not to traumatic.

Plant is starting to grow again now, root shock seems to be over. This is two days since I lowered the light back down.

Will be watering it today, the soil is pretty dry after on the third day since last watering.

So, the soil plant looks fairly good, maybe need to add a little TM7 as the soil was basically "low nutrient" after sitting for a season in the rains. Not super happy with purple leaf stems as they should be a happier green. It is putting on size quickly and I am pretty sure it just needs a little tuning.

My current mix for both the hydro and soil:

The bubble bucket plant seems to be very happy and it now has the tap root in the solution. I think it is going to grow quickly!

The drainage in the Soil Plant is less than ideal. It started to show signs of overwatering, so I lifted the pot and it was way too heavy for having not been watered for three days. Poked up through the drain holes in the bottom and quite a bit of water came out. Will watch it and a repotting is now in its future.

The Hydro Plant is not showing any negative signs and now that the roots are in the mix directly, it is starting to really take off. It is doing in two weeks what it seems took a month for its sibling. This bubble bucket has served well for everything that has been grown in it, does not appear to be letting me down this time either. I am shutting down the top waterer system now as the roots in the slurry can now sustain the plant without any issues.

The other two seeds are awaiting their chances to thrive and will be outdoor grows. We are still getting freezes and frosts, will likely fire them off in the next few weeks, but they will have to wait to go outside till the freezes are finished (likely another month). Also need to prep the holes they will go into...we have gophers (many, many gophers) and so everything that goes into the ground here has to start in root cages.

Happy with the progress so far. It has been over a year since my last grow and enjoying getting back into it all.

You’re well on your way man. I got 5 Gelatos in my veg tent that I just transplanted into 3 gallon pots. Most will be chopped up into clones. If I see a real nice one I’ll flower it out. Purple stems are pretty common with Gelato even when everything is going right. I’ve grown a lot of it. It’s pretty much a staple in my line up.

Daily growth in the bubble bucket...this is a series of pictures taken every morning. This system works pretty well.

Been a bit since I updated. The Soil Plant is out in the ground now and is doing okay. Had to wash the roots and plant it is fresh soil and it did not really like it, but it has survived and will be what it is.

The Hydro Plant is doing very well. Topped it on Saturday and am rooting the cutting for a second outdoor plant for end of summer harvest. The bucket is working perfectly and I will be building a second so I can have two really big plants in the tent. For now, this one plant is basically my re-learning tool to figure it all out again. It was germed on the 18th of February and the daily growth has been substantial.

I have two of the Gelato seeds left, so after this plant is flowered out there will be two taking its place. This one will be shifted to HPS on 12/12 on the 8th of April so it has another couple of weeks of veg.

Gelato is one of my favorites. I go a minimum of 10 weeks in flower. I’ve gone as long as 12 weeks. Dense rock hard buds. Piney and gassy. Just harvested 1 of 3 plants last night.

Nice harvest! This is my first Gelato grow. White Widow and Cal Hash were always my go-to's...that will very likely be changing.
