Howdy! I have been meaning to commit to a grow journal since my last one failed to make it beyond the introduction, and with the new year being 9 days behind us, I feel like its the perfect time to be fashionably late. I expect this year to be exciting and tragically short, with more plans and more beans than there are days in the year, but we shall abide. Here we go...

I cant think of a better place to start than with whats growing at the moment!

Here, we have the flower tent.
20240106_132644.jpg20240108_155731.jpg

This is some AKBB Consumption x Choc thai. I popped these beans along with some bohdi gear in early may, after I had 100% failure germinating 24 Consumption seeds from AKBB and Professor P. I was just testing out new germ methods, and ended up with near 100% success, but I had to push back my bigger plans to give these girls a chance to shine. The Bohdi gear (DLA 9) was my best grow yet in terms of overall plant health. The buds were dense, the plants were healthy, and there was very little stress. As you can see, the Consumption x CT has not faired quite as well. I am supprised by the foxtailing, as temps have been below 85, and through using a lux meter reading multiplied by .016, I have been keeping the rough PAR under 1040. The foxtailing and leaf tacos are more pronounced in the center, so next SOG, I will raise my light as high as I can while being able to reach comparable readings. I have been struggling to keep humidity stable, as I always do in the winter, and it shows. All of these issues, and perhaps some underfeeding aside, I am really happy with my girls. The smell is hard to place. I believe shes leaning towards the Consumption (Tk/nl5 x Haze) as I am getting no coffee/chocolate approximate smells off of her. She smells like good weed as far as I can tell, and since I am growing her for potency over terps, thats more than fine with me. The fact she does so well in SOG is why I am keeping 2 clones in my veg tent in case she is something special. She is at week 9 of flower, and due to the foxtailing, I am mostly using the lower buds to gauge when to harvest. I am hoping to have her hanging by the first, but only time will tell...

On to the exciting stuff I have in store for the first portion of 2024...

Here is the veg tent.
20240109_154207.jpg20240109_154450.jpg20240109_154247.jpg

The solo cups have some Space Monkey from Bohdi that I germinated on my computer desk as a whim and a test, completely forgetting it was winter and my house is cold as fuck. So the 2 of them had a rough month before coming into the veg tent. Theyre still slow, which is fine, because I still have no idea what I am going to do with them. The 70 gallons of soil in my spare bedroom might come into play, but more on that later... maybe...

The left column of the tray is all Mango C5 (Issac Haze x Mango Haze) from Sativa Hoarder Seed Co and on the Right is Chem Fuego ((Sour D x Headband) x Chem 91 bx3) with the aforementioned Consumption x CT in the back.

First thing you will probably notice is how unhappy they look, followed by how messy my grow space is. I hand water everything in rockwool until they can handle regular timed feedings. These gals have just hit that threshold, and this is how they are telling me, so I got the reservoir and timer set up today. After the flower tent is chopped, I will run a humidifier, and they will take off. Or at least that is the hope...

The Chem Fuego have showed sex!
20240109_154319.jpg20240109_154335.jpg

Meanwhile, the Mango c5 have shown... sulfur deficiency! (also 1 male, but I didnt feel the need to show another close up of male genitals)
20240109_154344.jpg

Ideally, I will cull the showing males this weekend, leaving 1 mango c5 male, just in case, which will free up some space for the girls to spread out. I will either take a handfull of clones from each Chem Fuego and flower the mothers, or run a mixed SOG. Choices, choices, choices...

I will share further updates on my means and methods, as ebb and flow with rockwool is tragically underdiscussed and utilized, as well as potential future plans come the weekend when I do my res change, or at any given point after that. First weekend off since mid December and I am making up for it with people time. All I can say is Ill be around and most likely sober, so please light one up for your boy.

Thanks for joining me on this journey, heres to many bountiful harvests in 2024 - TB

Sub zero temps and a hundred year old home have made the last few days a huge pain in the ass. Shut a sink off for a couple hours and came back to a frozen mess. My house has modern plastic plumbing, so I'm not too worried about anything bursting. Needless to say, the plants and this journal are taking a back seat to life's challenges.

I promise I havent quit this journal just yet. l will have updates between now and Thursday.

I had the most wonderful time with my partner the last couple days, lots of celebration and quality time after 60 hour weeks through the holidays... Woke up to the news my partners dog had a sudden health decline and euthanasia was in order...

So it's been a bit of a whirlwind, and I'm going to make this short.

I harvested my crop today, just a hair shy of 12 weeks. Got a sample drying on my desk right now, so hopefully I can get an early test in the next few days. Got some neat burnt rubber off the chopped nug that I never noticed before.

The veg tent got a hair cut, I will update with those photos later. Still sexing the plants, but my priorities are elsewhere for the forseable future...

If you got a dog, go give'em a hug.

My constant urge to lick doorknobs at outback steakhouse has left me with a got dang head cold.

Smoked a little Consumption x Choc Thai yesterday. Got pretty toasty for a minute off a corner bowl hit. When I get sick, the high just isn't the same, so I'll hold off on judging for a week, which is a huge fucking bummer lol

Will upload pics of my veg tent and some trimming this evening. ✌

Didn't trim today, they've still got a little drying left to do and I wasn't feeling up to it.

Here's the veg tent

Got a few male Mango C5 to cull, but I might keep the stud of the bunch, time will tell. The Chem fuego have 2 uniform plants and one that's just different enough to be noteworthy. The noteworthy plant also suffered the worst when I was struggling to get them to perk up. Turns out they just needed some heat and less light, so I put a big radiator in the tent and it's worked wonders!

The aforementioned "stud" male is in the back left. It's worth noting I waited an extra couple weeks to top the front left Mango c5, and the resulting branching differences are kind of neat!

Sorry for the half ass update, but my brain is bad and I am just waiting for my pizza rolls to finish up so I can crawl into my hovel, eat, and sleep.

Mango haze that's up my alley sounds awesome. Grew just a amnesia first time two years ago then read what strains was crossed and read silver haze. It produces small buds unlike the other that were different strains but the trichromes were really wild without looking with zoom. Just the silver tints from the haze was amazing wished I took pictures. All grown outside,I'm figuring on something for inside a closet for winter sanity.

Fuck yeah man, that's awesome! I am pretty eager to give her a go. Never flowered any of the hazes, but I got a handful in the freezer that I am getting an itch to pop lol

Lots of haze love going on these days, love to see it.

Yeah. The small test branch I left on my desk is clean, so I'm confident this developed post chop.

I don't know what to do with all this bud. I'm contemplating just chopping it up and throwing it in the dirt I have set aside for future projects. If you or anyone else has suggestions, I'm all ears.
Composting it would work. I just put mine through my lawnmower and mix with my yard waste.
