240w Blackstar or 150w hps?

Hey Guys, Im still new to this forum and I couldn't find a better place to ask this question.. I was wondering which would be better to flower with, the 240w Blackstar(flowering Model) or a 150w hps? Im interested in bigger yield more than anything. I would only be growing 1-2 autoflowers at a time, just a personal supply and I was wondering if each of these lights would be ok to flower both plants? Im looking to get atleast an ounce off of each plant, Is that to much to expect? Obviously, If it's rare to see these results with either light, would I be able to get an ounce if i just flowered one plant under it instead of 2? Let me know what you guys think.. Also, I live in a desert so the temps really seem to be a problem, And I know that Led's are great about not too much heat, so thats why im leaning a little more towards the blackstar

Thanks for any answers, and its nice to meet everybody:)

You will get that weight
you can go with both lights but i recomend from my own experience that you should go with the HPS

no i dont like the sound of that last post if heats a issue the hps is not for you they get good buds but also the burn away THC during the grow but led is the future keeps 100% thc so stronger weed i know blackstar is far from the best led grow light on the market but the results speak from their self's also if i had £1,000 i would get a stealth grow led super high end but thats why led is the future

I would seriously consider a ceramic metal halide in 150w. It would be my choice over hps for certain, it's a close one to led for me. I feel like led really needs you to optimize the plant to get a good yield where as the cmh might be a bit more forgiving. Cmh is also slightly cooler than hps, and a remote ballast helps even more.

I believe you will need a metal halide ballast, pulse start, but you have to check on that for anything under 250w.

My second cab i am going to run next to my led cab(see sig) will be 150 cmh.

Cheaper to run a 150W HPS than 250W LED
A bit hot but better. And more cheaper
the blackstar 240 actually draws 135watts so its cheaper to run than hps, plus with hps you have to run ventilation over and above that required for the 240.

I was thinking 150w cmh for my little clone box it it true that digital ballasts are a no-no for cmh?

Hps is cheaper at the get go, but I think the LED will out yield and run cooler than the hps.

Yeah it's all about magnetic ballasts for cmh. The problem is the frequency, digs are too high generally. Some digis are low frequency, but i think only a select few of those will fire the cmh.

Check out advanced tech lighting. Just google the name. They have some good cmh info, and very good prices. They also sell the proper ballast for each, it's all industrial type equip so it's super cheap.

I might do a pc grow in the near future because i always wanted to. I was thinking 100w cmh just cause it would be fun and could probably pump out an oz or more ;)

i would go for the pro grow if you have a bit extra cash but if you want cheap for for the blackstar they both use about the same power and put out the same amount of light pro grow might be a tiny bit better but im new to the led thing myself i ended up going for blackstar because thats the only led panal ive seen doing a grow star to finish and he has 3oz dont think ive seen anyone using the pro grow

Are you not aware of HO T5s? A 4 bulb fixture @ 54w/= 216 watts. You can buy far red bulbs, like ZooMed FloroSuns + Wave Tech Coral Waves for some awesome budding. He's a couple photos under an 8 bulb. Heat is minimal and rises, vs hps which radiates. This allows the T5 to be placed within 4" of the canopy thus providing a lot more spectral intensity/penetration. Check out the thread here LED Without LEDs My First T5 Grow

I purchased some low frequency digital ballasts for my CMH. It was a mistake. The units work exactly as they should, run 250, 320 360, and 400 watts flicker free.
But I get retro white CMH's for $50 and they run in an HPS ballast perfectly, and put out identical light as the the low freq ballast with pulse start CMH. The bulbs are less, the ballast is less and the output is the same.
At $319 plus freight the low freqs were not an efficient purchase, the HPS ballast/retro whites do as well for half the money.

Most definitely a CMH fan, three retro whites and three pulse starts in my clone/veg rooms.
Budding is LED with fluorescent.
