25$ diy dwc chiller

Here is my DIY chiller i put together a couple days ago. I used an igloo cooler and an eco submersible pump some 1/2" vinyl line and a blue ice pack. Its 100+ in my area right now and i was getting 80-85 degree res temps last week. I have successfully brought my res temps to 65-70 and all i have to do is change the ice pack every night. This also recirculates my system making it a RDWC increasing my DO levels.. Once my res is full of roots im going to try and use the pump to change my water/nutes also. Great idea man, this could really help me on the hot days for cheap.

...cool idea, but i was thinking about ice pack in the black bucket, and replace the water pump and tubes with airstone and an air pump?

I thought of that as well, the ice pack would work in the res until the roots reach. You don't want your roots touching anything that cold. And there is 2 air stones in the black bucket (res) powered by a 60 gal air pump.
 
Nice Looking forward to how this works. I wish I wouldnt have bought my Chiller now. After doing searching there are lots of DIY solutions!

I have built somthing simular, But I use a 5 cubic ft freezer I got for $50 from craigslist, I I run my chilled water to the freezer back to my res with a separate pump , I use a thermostate that I pulled out of a old A/C window unit, the bulb (sensor) sits in my res , this way my water temps are always consistenly where I set them, But I want make it better by using the small freezer as the res , theoreticaly if I can place the res in the freezer or make the freezer its self hold water , I can then change the amount of freon 134a ,in the refrigerant system ,by adding more 134a to the refrigerant system I will be able to bring the freezer temps up to a more sutable level, it will have to play with the 134a pressures to dial it in ,when I find another small freezer I will begin. just trying to compact the design I have already.
