2nd Harvest

So I just harvested my 2 plants this weekend and got about 500-600g wet, just about double my first grow yield of 3oz dry. Just tryin to get some tips, suggestions, help, anything really. I got my buds drying in a box I shoved some coat hangers into and made a lot of holes in. I placed the box near the sliding glass window in my room and it's pretty cold there.

One really weird thing that happened last grow as well is that some of the bud smells like hay. Last grow, I hung them for about 7-9 days in my closet and then put them into glass jars for 3 weeks. 1 oz from this Bubba Kush strain and 2oz from OG Fire Kush. The OG Fire Kush smelled GREAT all along. But from the very beginning, the Bubba Kush has this hay smell whenever I opened the glass jar.. even after 3 weeks of cure. and now it's happening with my Purple AK-47, even thought I'm using a cardboard box now. I took some sample buds from the Purple about a week ago and they were pretty dry last night, so I put them into glass jars and now whenever I open the jar, it smells like straight up hay. The bud is also moist again... maybe it wasn't ready yet? But the really weird thing is, this shit gets me SUPER high. Like almost 1 level higher than club bomb. (Bay Area, California btw)

I was wondering if anyone has any kind of trimming tips. It took me about 15 hours to trim 3oz last time and maybe 12 hours this time, got some help. I've looked around and it seems like I'm extremely slow... people are trimming pounds in hours damn.

I also started my first seed about 3 weeks ago and it's still pretty small. I'm only feeding it 1/4 str nutes just starting tonight. I got 1 23w 6500k CFL in there. How does it look?


Anyways, any kind of feedback would be great! I'm really starting to love growing and would really appreciate any kind of tips/suggestions/comments/anything. Blaze on!!

I only have a few grows under my belt but I've experienced the same thing your talking about with the "hay" or "green" smell you get when the buds first start drying/curing.

Basically what I've been doing is let the buds get crispy on the outside to where you can tell they've lost a lot of moisture but the stem still doesn't quite break. Then start the cure! Pay close attention though because you don't want mold so it will have to be opened quite often for the first couple days depending on how moist it is. Anyway Thats just an idea but the smell of my bud has improved a lot since I first started and I think it has a lot to do with getting curing down!

Nice job bro. Looks like you were dealing with some heat/nute issuses but pulled thru in good shape. Nice lookin nugs, love the purps.

They initially smell like hay as they are giving up the chlorophyll. As it is released the real smell comes back.

Thanks man! I waited a little over a week last time, and I think I dried them out too much. Now I know exactly what to look for, I actually feel the bud and can tell it's moist. I don't think I even touched the bud last time I hung it.. haha. And I've been trying to check the stems, but most of them are either small buds just chillin on the coat hangers or the stem is mostly full of bud, not really sure how to check... but I think I can tell from the moist feeling.
Also, do you think 15 minutes a day is good enough? Just open up the jar and let it breathe for 15 minutes, then close it back up for the day.

Yeah dude, I totally messed up because my first grow was in summer and even though the door was open when the lights were on, temps were around 85 without the AC. So for this fall season, I thought it would be better to have the lights come on at night time.. well that meant that I had to keep the closet door closed because my cats wonder everywhere and I can't close my room door since it gets cold at night. Even though the room temperature was low, the closet was mostly around 80-82. And of course my pH meter broke a while ago.. so the pH was TOTALLY off for the entire grow almost. I'm really surprised that I pulled off 3oz last grow and maybe 6oz this grow while my pH was totally off both times -- and get this --- MY FIRST GROW, I FED THEM SOIL FOOD FOR 7 WEEKS OF VEG! LOL!

The thing I'm worried about is that my last grow, I put each tree into it's own glass jar, and for the first week or so, I would leave the jar open about 15min a day. Even after that, the bubba kush still smelled really really funky. The OG Kush never smelled bad, even after the first day, it smelled bomb. I just hope it doesn't keep the smell this time.

Also, I came home today and checked out my nug that I put on a piece of paper... it is rock solid. Not like it's bad, because dense nugs ROCK, but I mean it's crazy! I had this bud hanging in a small box about 8-9 days ago, I removed it maybe 2-3 days ago and it was dry. I put it in a jar, few hours later - moist. I put it out on paper, a little bit more dry, then I toss it back in the jar and again in a few hours - its moist as shit. Now all of a sudden its rock dense solid! I love it! hahaha
