2x Star Killer (one fed organic one fed synthetic), London Pound Cake, and a Jealousy that self-topped

(welcome to post in this thread if it's helpful advice or feedback)

This is my first serious indoor grow attempt. I've only casually grown in my window sill and back yard garden previously.

Four plants:
London Pound Cake
Jealousy
2x Star Killer

**Feeding comparison**
One Star Killer will be fed with Gaia Green All Purpose 4-4-4 and Power Bloom 2-8-4
The other Star Killer fed with an Advanced Nutrients pH perfect mix (micro-grow-bloom) + B52 + Big Bud + Bud Candy
*London Pound Cake and Jealousy also fed Advanced Nutrients regiment

Grow Media:
in 80% Peat Moss/Perlite mix (which includes some wetting agents and supplemental silicon)
20% worm castings

Started germinating my seeds on December 1 2023, So roughly 3 weeks in so far (today is Dec 21)

Day 1: start germinating

One Week: Seeds sprouted (2 of them Jealousy and Star Killer stretched a bit because they sprouted sooner and spent extra time under weak lights)

Two Weeks:

** About this time I noticed the Jealousy is growing strangely - instead of a typical growth node it appears to be a single, mutated looking fan leaf....

*Day 17 - the large 'top' fan leaf on the Jealousy has gotten big and there's no sign of upward growth site. A new growth site has appeared below it though, coming from where the cotyledons first grew. This little plant has topped itself on the first node. I have never seen this before and had to do some research on self-topping which appears to be a genetic trait?

Three Weeks:

Plants are all growing fast now *leaves curling a bit as they were getting thirsty and light was a little low

*The self topping Jealousy is growing very fast. It's new bottom growth sites are reaching up and have grown past the large mutated fan leaf. Even though it's topped itself its almost the same height as the Star Killer

Topping Day

The self-topped Jealousy is growing nicely and each of her branches are on their 3rd node. I've tied her down to start training as it grows

The other three plants have all reached their 5th or even 6th node. I meant to top them at 4th node but I am behind schedule. No worries

I've started training the Jealousy. It's been growing fast since it topped itself. I'm concerned it's going to get a lot taller than the other plants in the tent so I'm semi-mainlining it to spread it out and keep it low

Five Weeks

Plants all got a full feeding early this week. Will do nutrient feedings weekly from now on and watering 1-2 times in between feedings as needed.

Synthetic feed (Advanced Nutrients): 4ml Sensi Cal Mag Xtra, 4ml Micro, 4ml Grow, 4ml Bloom, 4ml B-52 mixed in 2L water
Organic feed (Gaia Green): 15ml All Purpose 4-4-4, 15ml Power Bloom 2-8-4 mixed into top layer of soil then add 2L water

I have started defoliating from the bottom up, removing any leaves that were touching ground or not getting light. Much better light penetration and airflow now.

Six Weeks

Heavy defoliation done this week to open up for airflow and light penetration. Plants are growing happily.
Same feeding this week for the synthetic fed plants. The organic Starkiller only got a tiny sprinkling of 4-4-4 along with water feeding

Haven't noticed much different between the synthetic and organic fed no
The synthetic did stretched a bit as a seedling so it's a few inches taller (only due to being under weak lights) but otherwise they are growing at the same rate and looking healthy

I could say now things are maybe a little different. The organic Star Killer's stalk is noticeably thicker than the synthetic fed..

Also one of the stems on the organic is growing a thick crown of tops... very dense ring of many fan leaves and several new tops growing in a cluster. Weird looking.

Seven Weeks

I put in a trellis net to SCROG. I messed up my payment options so the order came about a week late. This wasn't necessary but I wanted to try a SCROG since I've never grown this way before

Planning to let plants grow vertically for 2-3 weeks then switch light schedule to 12-12

That top is pretty strange looking. I don't think it has anything to do with the nutrients though. Probably a weird genetic thing. Since they're from seed no 2 plants will be exactly the same. If they were clones the experiment would be more accurate but this will still be interesting.

The top of that plant is faciated. It a genetic fault, sometimes comes from inbreeding badly or from parents inbred badly, sometimes its just a fault thats caried in the genetics and will show up on certain plants. Might be a idea to cut that bit off otherwise its going to concentrate energy on that weird part, sometimes growing flat flopy stem and replicating way to much leaves and growth in a small space. Or you could leave it if you want just for the learning experience.
Looking forwards to seeing how you get on with the starkiller.

Google image search “fasciation in cannabis” and you’ll see this. Most would advise to cut it off.

interesting. i was considering cutting it off and hoping lower growths would come up normally. There is another top that's started growing sideways and doing something similar

Yes i have taken some cuttings off each plant so I will pay attention to how clones of each mother perform going forward.
