Well this is my first indoor grow. Had a few thousand seeds from some plants that we let go to seed this summer. No idea on the strains but there were definetly 4 different strains when we let them go to seed. Every 3 of them were heavy and i mean heavy couchlock. 1 was pretty mellow and mild.

The Room-

I have it curtained off at 6x9. There is a little closet area at 1 end that for now i have the fan for the lights, ballasts, and floor fan that keeps the digi ballasts nice and cool. I was very rushed to get this setup so its not quite how i want it. Still need to finish hanging the mylar. I have the 2 fans and 1 light running off this rooms 15 AMP circuit. The second light i am running from another room that is on a 20 amp circuit. I used a 20 FT 12 gauge extension cord. For now i don't have a dedicated exhaust fan. The 10 inch 525 CFM Can Fan cooling the lights is doubling as a 1/2 assed air exchanger for the room but working decently.

The Hardware-

Ballasts- 2x600W Lumitek Digis

Hoods- 2x ELD Aircooled (Great at reflecting not so good at cooling due to 4 inch ducting ports. Also have lots of air leaks).

Bulbs- 2X 600W MX Conversion (Solarmax HO) 2x 600W Ushio Hilux

Fans- 1 10 inch Can Fan originale 525 CFM. 1 generic floor fan from wally world.

The Bed, The Medium, and the Nutes- The bed was built to a size of 4x8 from 1/2 inch plywood and 3 2x6. Lined with heavy plastic. The soil is 2x bales of sunshine mix #4. Nutes in flowering were full dose of Alaskan Fish once a week. They get misted with seaweed extract everyday before the lights come on. Now they they have been flipped they are getting molasses and MG 15-40-15 (yeah i know..but options are limited at this time).

Temps and Humidity- Temperature with the lights on stays solid at 30 Dec C. Lights off it drops to 17-20 DEG C. Humidity with lights on is 40% Lights off its 65-70%. May give me some troubles later on in flowering but for right now there is nothing i can do about it :(

Coverings and Reflective- 6mm Black and white poly and Mylar+Tons of Duct tape, Tuck Tape, and staples!!

Misc- Had to go ghetto for the window box. Set it 3 inches away from the wall so there was room for the blind to hang. Also around the end of the ducting i made a 6 inch long carboard collar that goes through the window box. This keeps any shiny silver from being seen. Works great all you see from outside is a blind and a little cardboard.

The Pics-

#1 Plants are about 1 week old and just placing them for transplant.

#2 Is about 8 hours after transplant.

#3 through #8 These are from today. 20 days after picture #2 was taken. They are 3 days into flowering. (Might have horseshoes up my ass as all but 2 are showing female and those 2 are not showing anything yet).

#9 Just showing the general setup.

I topped most of them 1 week before i flipped them they seemed to have responded well. I was originally cooling the lights with a 4 inch vortex but it died so i had 1 light session where all they had for light was a generic 60 watt bulb and a few of them stretched a good 4 inches in that time as you can see from the pics. :wall:

The roots already are starting to form a solid layer 1 inch under the top of the soil. By the time they are done i am going to have to cut the soil into blocks to move it out.

Opinions and comments are welcome and appreciated so feel free!! :bigjoint:

RIU was my sole source in getting this going in a very short time. The vast amount of info and helpful people here we a huge help...ty RIU :bigjoint: That being said i was very rushed for this 1rst grow. I had 1 week research my ass off, order the gear and get it going. This room including the wiring from the breaker box is going to be completely redone in the near future...stay tuned! bongsmiliebongsmilie

I was debating building a tray but sealing it with resin. I like your set up. 4" does suck. Saw a buddies 2x1000w grow with 4" ducting and he said it barely sucks any air.

The plastic can work as a liner but might get a little messy. Do you have a vapor barrier? You're gonna have some condensation between the wood and plastic liner.

They stretched that much from a day of the 60w bulb?

The plastic i used is actually a vapour barrier. If i can keep from cutting it when i take the soil out it should work without any problems between the wood and the plastic...hopefully. Sealing with resin would be something cool. Would you also line with vapor barrier over the resin? I might be worried about leaching from the resin into the soil.

Yeah they stretched like crazy. 3 plants in particular stretched 4 inches+ in 24 hours. Couldn't believe it when i went in to setup the new fan.

I would hate to try 2x1000 with 4 inch...don't think i could sleep when the lights were on. Right now with that 10 inch going it keeps the hoods cool enough that i can keep my hand on the top of them no problem but with the 4 inch vortex the top of second hood got so hot i couldn't keep my hand on it. 2 of the plants right now are almost touching the glass and showing no signs of stress so i guess thats what counts :joint:

Most bait tanks that hold live mackeral and sardines for commercial fishing boats and charter boats have wooden live wells sealed with resin. It could last for decades if you use marine plywood with a few good coats of resin. You woul need to sand it to get it right. It would be a lot of work to do it right but you could build a tray for a custom area. I have an idea for my grow room that involves a wood tray with resin.

There would be zero moisture to the wood and the odor or toxicity would go away with a few good week of curing. It keeps picky and sensitive bait alive across hundreds of miles of rough ocean waters. There is no residue.

Scribed, looking good, glad to see you have the lighting, cooling working. I got 1 air cooled 600w hps with 6" fittings, but i run 1-4" inline, cool to the touch, makes a world of difference, good luck, hope this pans out for you!

Dude making that tray is a killer idea! How deep is it? I think this is something I'm going to try set up. Ur garden looks great, cant wait to see the plants mature.

Looks like he's running plywood on the bottom w/ 2x6 on the sides, so the answer would be around 5 3/4" tall.

If you decide to do it make sure you take some pictures would be great to see how you do it :blsmoke:

Yep hit the nail on the head. The soil is about 51/2 inches deep. By the way massive moose!! Specs and score on it please

Well had a bad surprise last night when i went in and had a look at the plants. 5 were showing male pretty clear so i chopped them. 2 more look like they are male but giving them another day to make sure. That will put me down to 15 females. Still not too shabby though.

Managed to fix my 4 inch vortex. After taking it apart i noticed one of the balancing clips was missing found it laying on the floor and put it back on this smoothed the air out again. Revamped the light cooling a little and am using the 4 inch fan again. Going to setup that 10 inch as a dedi room exhaust to try and get a handle on humidity when the lights are off.

Will try to get some pics up tonight :joint::joint:

Dradden, how tall are you going to let ur plants get before flowering?
Those pics in my first pic are them 3 days into flower i believe. On average they were about a foot tall when i flipped them :)

And now heres one of several I have managed to put in the freezer.
Nice one bet that was tasty...nothing beats moose meat! Would hate to have that record moose come at me in the bush. Have had it happen before and scares the hell out of a guy lol.

Chopped 2 more males tonight and looks like 2 more are going to be chopped. Damn sausage fest in my growroom!!

Bummer on your sex ratio - I've been doing WW from Dutch Passion for the last 4 years or so - first grow had one hermi on me & I ended up with a moderate amount of seeds that have so far been all girls. 74 germd "savers" by myself & friends have all been girls. I have 17 now under two 600 HPS (2+ weeks in flower) in SCROG. Its gonna be a very nice new year !
I have to ask, why the bed instead of individual buckets? I run 4 gallon buckets w/ 2 plants per, 6 week veg, 9-10 week flower & find that watering/runoff etc is very easy to deal with. In addition they are much more mobile if necessary.
Not a dig, just a quest for more info.
Thanks for the thread.

Yeah not so lucky this time around. Next time i am going to get some feminized seeds and after that going to do clones i think. The bed is kind of a experiment. I had planned to put some screws around the outside edge and LST all the plants. Figured it would make it easier. Not being able to move the plants kind of sucks but so far the plants are not showing any ill effects. I may go with containers in the bed on the next one. Also in the bed i think it allows a bit more freedom for the roots. The entire bed has a layer of roots 1 inch under the soil...thats a big spread :weed: Not sure but having that big of a spread on the roots should help with water and nute uptake....but don't know as i haven't been able to compare to pots...just a idea :joint:

Sounds like it will be a great new year for you indeed :D

Well finished changing up the ventilation hope it helps...and yeah had to go ghetto

The 4 inch in the first pic used to be mounted on the wall by that floor fan. But that put it at a weird angle to the lights and made for a big bend in the ducting. So hung it in a straight line with the lights.

2nd pic is that 10 inch i was using for the lights. As you can see i have the exhaust from the lights blowing right by the intake. That 10 inch gets it all no problem. I only wanted 1 outlet going out the window. Have way better air movement through the room now and it seems to have dropped the temps a few degrees in a matter of minutes.

the rest of the pics is of the slowly emptying bed...damn males. The rest are coming along nicely though. :joint:
