3' x 6' closet area - how would you setup

Upon harvesting my current crop, I am going to re-design my 3 foot x 6 foot closet so I can grow more efficiently and have a higher yield.

I wanted to get some opinions out in the RIU community. If you had a blank canvas of a 3'x6' space (7 foot ceiling), what would you do with that space?

I am thinking about splitting my closet into two areas, with the flowering area taking up about 70% of the space. In that space I would like to have a 400 or 600 Watt HPS and be able to fit 4-6 three gallon pots. (still deciding if I would want to go hydro or do a SOG style grow).

The other side of the closet will be for veging with a smaller MH light, or 250 watts of CFL. Here I will veg clones for a few weeks, before switching them over to the flower side of the closet. Definitely want to try out a perpetual harvest/cycle.

What are your thoughts? How would you choose to maximize the space to get the best yields.

Thanks!

First of all the diagram makes some assumptions about the physical layout of your closet. Obviously I have the closet in the 'long' fashion, with the entrance positioned on a shorter dimensioned wall. No matter where the door is positioned you should be able to determine a way to partition into two spaces; one of of roughly 14 sq. ft and then a remaining 4 sq ft.

The E's are your empty space and the p's represent area actually containing plants. You'll need room to move around, especially in your veg area so you can easily enter your flowering area with supplies and maintain the plants there. There are various ways to divide the room and it will be much easier to do if the walls and floor are level. You can use Styrofoam or related insulating materials available at home improvement stores. Sheets of insulation usually come in 4 x 8 foot and
in varying thicknesses. You would need at least the half inch sheets, although the full inch may be preferable (it is more expensive). Due to the size of them and your purposes, some cutting is inevitable. After cutting you'll want to duct tape the ends.

You'll have to both divide the closet, and allow yourself some kind of entrance into the flowering chamber, of course. There are plenty of alternative ways to make a temporary wall... you could hanging black/white plastic lining or even buy the zipper-style prefabricated dividers. Either way you need some kind of an entrance inside. A zip-up divider or prefabricated temporary wall is most convenient, but you could also just use the aforementioned foam insulation and figure a way to fashion yourself a door or some simple replaceable cut-out to allow yourself, supplies and fresh plants in (and remove the harvest, of course).

For lighting in flower I would use two lamps if possible, both high pressure sodium and metal halide. I would either use both a 400 watt and a 250, or a 400 watt each of metal halide/HPS or just a digital 600 watt with a dual arc bulb. There's really a lot of options here (too many).

K I am done thinking here, but what are/were your plants for ventilating the chambers?
