400 or 600 watt HPS for Autos

Just trying to get some feedback from this experienced community. I have a 4x4x6.5 tent and I'm having trouble deciding which system I should go wit for autos. Recently I ordered a 600 and had to send it back through the mail because it showed up broken... If anyone has a similar setup I would love to hear what you have and how it's working out for you (might help me make up my mind a little more) thanks...

in that space I'd go with the 600. IIRC a 400 only covers a 2.8'x2.8' space. If you look around the rest of the forums, there's tons of info available on this subject. Read first, ask questions when you've exhausted all other options :bigjoint:

I use a 400 watt and grew 6 plants with it this past harvest, 4 white widow, 1 bad seed, 1 mendo purps. With the 400 watt i averaged 4 oz per plant like clockwork. If your gonna do anymore then 6 plants then i would go with the 600, not much of a price difference but alot more lumens.

I would opt for the 600 watt hps in spaces that big. I have a 40 inch by 40 inch with a 400 hps and I wish I would have bought the 600 , But the 400 would work too, just not a optimum as a 600

600w
bigger is always better aslong as you can keep the temps under control and have enough vertical to handle it
the 600 has so much more penetration
i run a 400w and love it
after a little research i found that my limited vertical would not allow me to run full power in my box it would be a bleach fest so i got the 400 and am more then happy with it

and my 400 covers a 3x4 space very well im sure others will tell you the same thing

a 400w would be adequate dont let anyone tell you any different
there have been many grow successful with that setup

1000 watt dual arc .............it has a 400w mh and a 600w hps in one bulb cost 160 bucks but they are great for autos whole way tho

use this ballast .................if u think i am wrong u can lower it to 400 or 600......................but i know i am right and u will love this with a built in time and the whole system it is once u read and use it

That is correct. Each white widow produced just under 4oz each, my bag seed plant produced almost 5oz and actually my mendo purps only produced a little over 2 oz so yes, about a pound in a half with a 400 watt light using DWC with a drip system running 24/7. GH 3 part for nutrients with a compost tea additive.

I'm assuming those aren't autos

That's some shit-astic luck there! Hope you can turn that one around man. :joint:

I reckon a digital ballast with 400 and 600 that way if heat is an issue in the summer you can feed it 400w bulbs, and if the heat isn't a problem stick in a 600.

Thanks guys! The heat issue has been giving me a little bit of a problem. So I will def be considering the dimmable 600. Hopefully that will help me alleviate this issue... I might just have a inefficient brand when it comes to a fan/filter combo? It's a 20 lb carbon filter with a 440 cfm inline fan and I think it's made or sold through/by MIX WHOLESALE... I would think that would of been plenty? What do guys think, any suggestions???
