400 watt HPS ballast question

I'm wondering the sturdiness of ballasts. the ballast in question is the HTGSupply 400w HPS Ballast running a 400w HPS bulb. If a person needed to lower the temp in the room with lights on, is it feasible to use this solution? Take a timer, and hooking it up to the ballast, have it set to run 30 minutes on/15 minutes off when using a 24/0 cycle. Can a ballast stand up to that, or is it shortening the life of the ballast and some other cooling solution needs to be used. Thanks for any information in advance.

most ballasts have a period that it takes for them to reset before they will fire again. i would make the ballast a remote ballast and just have it in a different room all together that is what i did the light bought had an internal ballast and i removed it and ran power from the timer to the ballast in a dif room then from the ballast to the light.

you have to think about what you are going to do when you flower too if i heard this on this site and i feel it holds true, if you fail to plan plan to fail!!

Oh, just to make sure it's understood, there are 2 400s HPS bulbs & ballast, so there is no dark period.
