400W HPS Closet Grow. Do I need vent?? Please help.

Hi everyone im starting my first closet grow and right now my 2 babies are veging under (FL) bulbs there doing pretty good on MG soil. my closet is about 3x5x10 it has access to the attic. my question is with a 400 w hps would i need a vent system? i have a small fan atm just to breeze the closet but can anyone tell me what they think? any suggestions?

My guess is yes, you will need some way to get the hot air out of the grow room, would it be possible to rout it to the attic?

What kind of system would i need? maybe i can open a hole and put a fan to suck air out of the room and i run tubbing through the attic but the wont my neighbors or anyone walking around be able to smell it when flowering? i dont any ideas?

For flowering you should consider buying a carbon filter and have it exhaust into the attic. you can use it both as exhaust and ventilation.

Im looking foward to buying a Homebox S , Im going to be putting it my closet which has an attic. Ok, Im not going to be growing hydroponic (atleast for now) so ill be using soil. I am also going to be using a 250watt HPS. So these are my newb questions, how am i going to ventilate? I live in Miami,Fl and the weather can get pretty hot in the summer but luckly were in winter and the temp doesnt get toooo hot.. If anyone can give me specs on what to get for that specific tent (Homebox S) i dont have too much space so ill be sticking with that. Also, How will I control odors? Im currently growing two soul diesel under 2 40w floro and there coming out beautiful maybe 4 inches tall so far, but there growing by the minute. any information will be greatly appriciated.

you can do both with the following set up:

carbon filter -ducting-fan-ducting-light-ducting to exhaust.

add a passive intake (just a hole) to let fresh air in and you should be good to go.

I would listen to desertrat. that is the optimal way to do it. Personally I wouldn't get a box when you can make one. growing is addictive and you have all that room in the attic to fill....(SWEET)

My grow area is 5x5x8 (width, depth, height). With no fans going, my 400w HPS raises my closet's temperature 20 degrees Fahrenheit. I assume you will definitely need some sort of ventilation for the light, unless you keep your house extremely cold! I don't know much about growing, but I know the 400w produces some heat! I would get a carbon filter or build one yourself. Again I'm not a veteran or anything, but I would set up my carbon filter, run ducting to the fan, to the light, and out. Or from the filter, to the light, to the ceiling to the fan or something. Anyhow here is a pretty good DIY carbon filter for around $70. A pretty nice one imo too. Scroll down a little bit and you'll see the step by step process. Good luck man!

That HPS will smoke check that grow closet if you dont vent the hot air out. Your temps will skyrocket upwards of 100 degrees. Look into a cool tube or some serious cooler air intro into the closet.

I really wanted to go with the 400w but that heat shit is stressing me out so ill downgrade. my girls are starting to grow Im going to start my grow journal soon!
