400w MH & HPS ~ 4 plant Blue Cheese ~ ScroG

My last grow was a total flop, but learned a lot of lessons on what NOT to do. Made a few upgrades since then.. new grow room, new lights, new pots, and giving ScroG a try. I'm still poor, and lazy.. so I know there are a few things that will be frowned upon. But making upgrades here and there as we grow. So it's just a matter of time before everything will be top notch. Those of you that have seen my threads since I first started here can agree, I'm making good progress.
Here's what I've got thus far..

Mass's Spring 2013 Grow

x4 Blue Cheese (clones)
Veg: 5-6 wks. under 400w MH
Flower: 8 wks. under 400w HPS
Pots: 5 gallon buckets (drilled for drainage)
Soil: Mixed soils of ~ Miracle Grow 6mo. feed + Miracle Grow moisture control. (last time using this stuff. Will be HappyFrog or Ebb & Flow from here on out. Still deciding which route to go.)
Nutrients: none, other than what's provided by the soils.
Water: 6ppm RO as needed
Temps: mid 80*s Day, mid 70*s Night, 30%-40% humidity

Week 1:

Week 2:

Hey, the holes in that screen are too small. Dont bother trying to squeeze and branches through it and just cut the holes bigger when/as needed.

looks like you need to get the light a little closer one piece of advice for you on the miracle grow. DO NOT ADD NUTRIENTS WHILE VEGGING !! this is very important otherwise you will burn the shit out of them

It's 20" above.. so guess I'm good.
sorry Todzilla. After reading this I felt like it was a jerk response.
I know you can't tell from the pics, but I use the pulleys to raise the lights up and out of the way for the photos. Then lower them back down to 20" when I'm done.

well thank you! I'm still pretty noobish, but learning a lot from everyone here.
I'll definitely keep an eye out for your posts.

switched over to 12/12 a week or two early. I did a little bit of LST, but really wishing I would've just bushed these kids from the beginning. The 4 girls just weren't filling out the screen as much as I would've liked. So I dropped it down about a foot, and switched over to the HPS.
Went ahead and built a cloning chamber, and filled it up in preparation of my next grow. Going to get some bushy scrogs going pretty soon here.

week 4 ~ 12/12 started early

end of the 1st week of 12/12, thought I'd post pics showing my lack of successfully filling the screen.
The cuttings in the cloning chamber are 1wk. old. So will hopefully see some roots forming soon. Can't wait to get started on a new batch of veg plants. Going to give topping a try with my next scrog. Seems my clone is rather stretchy, so want to limit that from now on.

Haven't tucked or tied anything down for 2 days. Starting to fill out nicely.. and the female pistils are now visible.
week 5 from start.. Day 10 of 12/12.
Starting to wish I would've vegged for the entire 5-6 weeks.. rather than just the 2.5 - 3 weeks they went for. But lost interest once the stretchy stalks took over.

Built a cloning chamber and vegging chamber.
Day 5 of cuttings in the cloning chamber. Rooted 80% of the clones so far..
All I did was take 2 kitty litter tubs stacked together. Top one has 4"-5" of pure perlite, with cotton wick extending through the bottom to lower reservoir, which just contains a few inches of RO (6ppm). 24 hours of CFL light, kept warm and humid. Done and done.. Total cost was $7 for rooting hormone powder. Everything else was just laying around the house.

Good stuff man, wishin you a good harvest. I'd suggest painting the floor and walls off-white if possible.

Thank you.
They're mostly white.. but the HPS makes the whole room glow amber. Like what you see in the pics.
Will probably deck the whole area out with mylar pretty soon here.

Loving this CP, I`ll stay tuned for the duration. Didn`t think those were getting through that screen at the start of the thread. Best of luck, keep it green mate,

KC :weed:

P.S. I use nutes during veg, CANNA Terra Vega is quite mild for beginning plants. I even use a quarter strength for my cutting medium and starting seeds (not to advertise for CANNA for anything) :)

I already have 4 new scrog screens here. All of which have larger holes than the current table.
The chicken wire has been a pain in the ass..

What I need to find is an affordable flowering nute that'll give me bigger buds.
Next step after that is to ditch the soil and build a bubbler, or ebb & flow setup. I'm over the miracle grow thing..
Is there a bagged soil out there that comes ready with nutes mixed in for flowering cannabis? Something I can just sow and grow my clones in without having to worry about 30 different nute products?

Hey CP, let`s clarify, larger nuggets or are we talking density? There is a HUGE market for these products so you could get a lot of answers. Secondly, whoa on the soil man. Check my profile albums for my Cataract, there`s a picture of a nice bagged soil I use without added nurtients (although DOES have mycos). It`s easy to feed and mixes 60/40 with perlite for a real nice mix, full cycle. Don`t have to go hydro unless you`re after speed growth, I`ve done both and I still think you can`t beat the soil taste. Quantity will be there either method if you know the strain and have the root room. Food for thought :)

Nice links.
I'm guessing you knew, that I knew.. all of the stuff you posted there about perlite, peat bogs (since that's where carnivorous plants (CP's) are found), sphagnum (I grow my CP's in live LFS), and vermiculite. All common knowledge in the carnivorous plant hobby. I even have two custom made in-ground peat bogs in the back yard just for my Sarracenia collection!

larger nugs.. or density? ummm.. uhh... ummm.. How about both?
What I didn't see was your outcome from using the CannaVega and mycoActive soils. Any links to past results?

Account had a wipe back in 2009 where I lost all my albums but the Mystery Haze that was a friends grow I `helped`him with (morelike intervene and save). I`ll be updating my journal in a bit here and you`ll see just the short term benefits of the Terra Vega. It`s not a huge dosage, C.T.V tends to be pretty mild, hard to overfeed, especially hungry Cataract.

I only use soils that incorporate some sort of mycos to begin with, so a comparison to one without wouldn`t be possible. Mycos enable your root system to be the strongest possible, and the larger the root system, larger to buds and growth. Healthy roots = healthy buds and stems.

I personally use CANNAs PK13-14 for flowering boost in conjunction with the Terra Flores in flower. Depending on the strain and my conditions, I`ll use something like Lquid Karma or a Sugar boost as well in weeks 4-7
