400w MH/HPS Grow Tent: Afghan Ryder, C99 Hybrid + more

i noticed one hair on the afghan ryder 1 and another single hair on the afghan ryder 2. the third one no signs yet but they all look great. the c-99 is growing SO FUCKING MUCH everyday. idk what im gonna do with her i think she might start hogging the tent up lol.

i'd take some pics but its honestly a single hair. im sure in a few days they will only keep popping out so you should expect to start seeing some of that in upcoming updates

Nice grow, im subbed, curious. Did you use a different soil to start the seeds? Im currently growing 1 girl in a double sterilite bin set up (first time grower for anything so its how im learning) but I got a good sized cab ill be switching to after.

hey man thanks for taking a look at what i have going on. i did a rubbermaid setup probably similar to yours for my first grow as well. if you go to my profile and look at started threads you can find it..... let me know if you have any questions but ill be sure to take a peek at your thread as well.

the soil i used to start them was this fluffy looking stuff that came with the seed cell starter kit. the kit was like 3 bucks at home depot.

watered the girls tonight. i thought they would be wet still from my last watering since it was heavy but they are getting thirsty it appears!

i used straight water 6.8 ph bottled for them all and added 16 oz of nuted water with big grow only for afghan ryder 1. the leaves look like a nitrogen deficiency so i want to experiment with results.

plan to start 12/12 tomorrow on day 21. switching from metal halide to high pressure sodium at that point too. i am going to run lights on 9pm-9am to avoid running the AC more than necessary for keeping temps cool.

side question- do hps bulbs run warmer/hotter than metal halide?

girls just went 12 hours first dark period. the liberty haze is flowering ALREADY? how is this possible? day 1 of 12/12 and she shows a hair already? i'm really confused. ive usually seen/expected to see sex on a photoperiod in about a week or so. am i wrong on this?

got the carbon filter hanging already. dont wanna get caught off-guard by the stench...


anyway, they look great. no watering was needed. still waiting on afghan ryder 3 to show flowers... hmm . oh well.

og is still crusting along.. thinking its a dud. well keep her for a bit tho, see how she does.

with 4x4 you may want to go 600w.. i almost regret not buying a 600 watter myself. from everything ive heard the heat isnt much more and you almost double your lumen output. my tent is too small for a 600w though so i cant be too pissed. anyway, my 400 during veg with a mh was about 10 inches away from them and temps were around 82. today is my first day doing hps and after a couple hours im realizing how much hotter the hps lamps run. i already lowered the plants and its 11 pm here right now, 75 degrees outside, 70 inside my room due to AC unit and the temps at canopy level are at 82... im thinking im gooing to have to move the plants even further down simply to maintain good temps for them during these remaining hot summer days. but to answer your question, they are about probably 13 inches away from the light to canopy

i love the cool tube lighting. it makes heat issues such an ease on my mind. plus, i dont want to burn the house down and that shit bugs me out when i have to leave for a day or two and i just think about that hot ass lamp running. its worth buying an air cooled hood or cool tube simply for the safety associated with it if nothing else. just my $0.02

watered the ladies tonight. before they went dark around 6 am this morning the soil was still hella moist and when i got home around 10 after 1 hr of lights on it was dry a finger deep nearly. i watered with 1 1/3 tsp big bloom and 2/3 tsp grow big (in proportion to 1 gallon). im still using veg nutes for this first week of flowering. the tent was getting stinky today i opened her up and she was skunky and funky. i cant imagine in another few weeks....

ryders only have about 5-7 weeks left im thinking but im gonna crop due to appearance not a number on a calendar.


started LST training the c99 cause its just getting too damn big.

lowered the plants to 15-17" away due to heat... temps got to 88 so i had to make the move. im aiming for 75 or as close as possible to it.

stay high fellow RIUers... im obviously too baked lol


EDIT- i just checked temps after lowering plants over an hour ago. they are now at 77 degrees on the digital thermometer but i have an old school red fluid temp gauge next to it which reads 73-74ish... not sure which is right. the analog one consistently reads 2 degrees cooler or so than the digital one. either way- this is good news. 77 is spot on.

is that nute burn on my one afghan ryder in the front left row? check the leaf. its just that one leaf and all the other stuff looks fine...

i ordered some 6 inch ducting just now. i got a tube 25 feet long. i was planning on getting some when i started flowering so i could ensure no light leaks occurred through the passive intake at the bottom of my tent. im pretty damn sure no light is getting in as is but you cant be too sure .

i'm also thinking that ill cut some pieces of the tube to replace all of my 4 inch ducting i currently have installed. what i'd do is take the 4-6" reducers off each end of the cool tube (cool tube is 6") and attach the 6 inch ducting right to the tube and in turn use the reducers for hooking up the ends of the duct to the filter and inline fan. would this help my ventilation at all do you think? any thoughts?

i just checked the soil ph on all of my plants. i damn near forgot i had bought a soil ph checker but im glad i remembered. here are the results. all the plants are 6.5-6.9 ph EXCEPT for afghan ryder 2 and the c99. those two are closer to the 6 range... low sixes... here are some pics of how it read out on the meter

my question is this: i have ph up and down and a ph tester (the color matching kind)... should i ph the water higher for those two plants going forward and conduct continual checks on their soil phs? in other words, how can i correctly increase the soil ph back to the 6.5-7 range? they LOOK healthy but i dont think this thing is lying.. when i started the grow day 1 the soil on all of them read out to 6.9

hey guys, got home tonight before 9. my 400w lamp is supposed to come on at 9 oclock... never came on. after 10 min i start wondering and i unzip the tent and plug the plug into a different outlet. the bulb lights up a light purple glow for less than a second then flashes off and never comes on even though its plugged in. i switched bulbs cause my babes need their 12 hours but this FUCKING SUCKS, i have only used this bulb for a week, not even. the mh bulb works so i know it isnt a ballast issue. any ideas? i really wanted to use hps for flower and i dont have the money to over night another one to my house... fucking ass..

watered with just h2o tonight. 2.5 16oz bottles for each ryder and 4x16 oz bottles for the big guys. the og was still wet from a watering the other day. she has been on a schedule of her own it seems like...

growth is incredible. everything is going great. duct came today and installed that on intake. the new hps bulb should be here tomorrow in time for tomorrow's lights on.

still no flowers from ryder 3 yet... strange. it has the most leaf growth among the ryders and is getting quite big.

dude i have no idea. im thinking maybe i transplanted it too early? i transplanted when i saw roots coming through the hole at the bottom of the seed cell starter things ... it seems like it stunted as soon as i moved it. im still gonna keep it going though. well see, i guess. the seed was $17 so anything i get from it will make it worthwhile.
either that, or i used a different soil (see earlier thread pages) and a different mix with it to aerate the soil with (vermiculate as opposed to perlite)...

6 total in 5.8 sq ft of space. its like 63ish watts/sq foot.... its 6 plants including the og but we might scuttle her soon
