400watt MH benefits???

What are the benefits of a MH light? I recently got a 400watt MH light and to my eye it looks not much brighter than the 4 lamp t5ho set-up at home depot. Plants aren't growing any faster either than when they were under my cfls. Wondering if I made a mistake getting this over the t5 set-up, with added electricity use. They were both the same price. of $130.00.

About the only thing that a standard metal halide HID is good for is large scale cloning. I use mercury vapour metal halide on a schedule along with 24 hour daylight tubes in the mother room. I have been forced to use standard MH until I got a new frosted MH. The new ceramic metal halide HID sounds like an interesting bulb for budding. Back in the day MH was the only bulb readily available.

What are the benefits of a MH light? ....a lot more light per watts used, I have used both lights and both light have there uses, use T5 for little or no ventilation, got ventilation go for the 400w Mh.

like said, way more lumens per watt, much better light penetration.. just because they don't look different to the eye or the plants don't seem to be growing faster, there's really no comparing hids to cfl's or flouros..

I agree. MH / HPS is the most expensive but still the best.

leds and plasma are way more pricey then any hid on the market by a long shot..

Man much appreciated everyone. I'll keep it going I reckon. I know when I get more in there vegging it'll pay off. I basically built another little room with intake, exhaust, all the ducting etc. and then I plugged in the light and was like what the hell? All that work and it looks the same as a t5 set-up.lol I'm going all out for these hell raiser og's though. Thanks again for the input, wish the like button was still around.
