depends on who you talk to, I did this sunday, put it in darkness for 36 hours, she sure stunk while sitting, but I really dont know if it produced any more bud or trics...

I have done this many times and it always comes up more trichs. Another trick is to raise your lights 20-24 inches above the plant canopy the last 1-2 weeks of flowering. Again more trichs will form and also taste and smells like you never knew existed

have you ever thought of putting a plant in a deep freezer.
The whole point of the 24 hours is to "shock" them.
Some people crank the a.c up in the last 24 hours. With the light off.
Try flushing with ice water.? tell me how it goes.

I am going to be harvesting in about 24 hours or a little less now. I watered my three white dwarf ladies with ice water and they have been in darkness already for over 24 hours and I plan on leaving them in complete darkness for 48 hours. I will let you guys know if I seem to see any improvements!

has anyone ever actually done an experiment though? like put 2 groups of plants side by side. 1 group gets the 48 hours or darkness, the other group is done normal. always nice to see documented proof for verification. it is nice to try different things but im always skeptical of a lot of shit ppl tell me unless i read it from a reputable source like high times. im interested in the results if anyone actually puts this to the test.

If you put a plant in a deep freezer, it stops living. If you pour ice water on the roots is goes into shock and stops everything. Lowering the temps at night brings out the color. The whole point of 48 hours of darkness is to bring out the trichs. They grow out at night.

I have done many side by sides and yes it does work and well. As for the colder temps at night, well here is some LA Woman and Super Lemon Haze, and A Blue Widow, all where in lower temps the last 2 weeks.

The trichs will start to go amber and the already amber one's will start to degrade . Not saying how long that will take?

Yeah it would suck to ruin it. Still is there anyone who knows when the degradation to cbn starts to accelerate? I am about 5 days from my first harvest from bagseed. I'm on day 81 of 12/12.

I've read several post in here that suggests 48 hour darkness before you harvest, is there an advantage to this? Thanks OH
I once read a post where and it said something about high times article on someone doing that or something and they actually tested thc% with the same strain and 48hrs did increase it some strains were more than others.
But it did say it worked and I usually try to do 24 hrs at least since then

i was reading the "seeds and strains guide 2010". on pg. 86 a small caption, "medicine mans secret grow tip.it states as follows. " add weight, resin, flavor and aroma to your garden by simply turning of the lights and giving your plants cold water, and full darkness for the last 3 to 5 days before harvest. you will be amazed at the amount of essential oils created in that short period" so there you go proof from a very talented grower that believes it works. i will try it just becuase i dont see any negative feedback from doing this from any forums ive read so far.

Well this is how it works light degrades thc so in the morning it is at its peak only because the light has not burnt it up I would have to say the limit would be when your plant runs out of energy from the last rays of light it got!

With this in mind I can't see it being much benefit to go much past 36 to 48 hours as the plant has used up its stored energy!

yes,yes i did a little more digging around and i have found that it also allows all the built up starches and sugers to leach from large bud areas and foliage. from what i gather this has a great effect on the flavor and burn quality.

then its not at its peak! in the morning! ya know!
What are you trying to say nothing ok thanks!

Its posts like this that make old growers not want to help!

Just because I have a low post count doesn't mean I am a noob I just never had this forum stuff to leach info when I started self taught and lots of books!

I watered last 2 datys ago. My plan was to start the dark period tonight and continue for about 3 days or so deciding as I go. But this way my plants start the dark period already close to dry instead of freshly watered. Seems as though water would be needed for the plant to form the oils so I'll water to start the darkness. Just with molasses and maybe a touch of spirulina. No peroxide or fertilizer this time. But I definitely want the soil to be completely dry before harvest so it may be closer to 4 days of darkness ideally. Decisions lol. I just went to feel the dampness of the soil and it's dry to about an inch below the soil. So I think I'll go w/ my original plan since the plnats still have some water left. Anybody w/ advice?
