5 Gallon vs 7 Gallon

Hey Guys,

I am growing 3 strains Barney's LSD, Blue Cheese and Violator Kush. They are in 5 Gallon containers now and are being LSTed. I am going to put them into flower next week and was wondering if I should add more soil to 7 or 8 gallons. I wont transplant, I will just get another 5 gallon container and fill it half way with ocean forest soil and cut the bottom off of my other container and just put it on top of the new container so it has about 2 gallons extra of soil. I might go more to make it maybe 7.5 or 8.

My question is, do you think it is worth it? Or should I just leave it in the 5 gallon?

I am growing in a 39 by 39 by 79 grow tent and once they go to flower I will have a 600W HPS light with a mini sun soaker reflector.

Just curious what you guys thought. Thanks

you're goin' to flower........the roots are gonna slow down.......their job is done, and they know it. 5 gal. will do.

Well they been in Veg for a while now (they were off to a slow start; I would say since Feb 2nd) and they are under a 4 foot 4 bulb T5 set up. They are LSTed but If they were standing straight up they would be about a foot now.

Well except my Violator... It is extremely bushy. The fan leaves are the size of my hand and there are a lot of them. I just recently tied them down to get more light to the future bud sites

I only really got the idea when I saw a root coming out the hole in the bottom of my violator container. So I figured they might need more room. I pushed it back in and havent seen any since though

I think in general any plant will grow better with an unrestricted root system, or a longer root run. But remember you fertilize your plants making their need to search for food not as necessary so it balances out. I've grown in 2qt pots for 8 weeks. Nice results. Currently I'm using grow bags. They hold in moisture well and shade the root zone. 3 gal seems to work.
