600 Watt Cool Tube Cabinet SCROG

Hey people!

I just wanted to get a head-start on this grow journal since the growing process has officially begun. I am starting what I hope will be an awesome grow with excellent results.

Some info about my grow box: I have nailed 3 2X4's together along with 2 2X2's serving as the top and bottom. It's all 5-ply plywood. It looks kind of similar to a small Ikea wardrobe cabinet. My carpentry is not the best, so I'd prefer to not even talk about it when you people point out that there are nails sticking out where there shouldn't be :) For this grow box, I simply hammered drywall nails into the plywood--no nail gun.

So I attempted to germinate 16 bag seeds so that I would be left with about 8 females after sexing the plants. So far, 13 seeds have sprouted through the dirt and they range in size from 1 centimeter tall to 5 inches tall!!! They currently are under 2 compact flourescent bulbs while in vegitative growth. All plants are growing in 2 large pots, and I will transplant then into their own individual spaces once I get the cool tube light.

When the cool tube arrives on Thursday, I will post more information on how I installed the light. There will be a 6 inch duct fan with a minimal amount of dryer duct to allow for ventillation. I will post exactly how it is set up once I install the light :)

Pictures to follow within the next week, hopefully.

At this time, the light cycle is on 24/0, with constant flourescent light bombarding the tiny plants. Soil is Miracle Grow Organic (yes, I know most of us would prefer to not use Miracle Grow when growing our favorite illegal crop, but the unnecessary nutrients will eventually flush out.) Because there are like 9 plants to a 1-gallon pot, I will transplant them into their own space eventually. What I had in mind was to get 1 large pot about 2'X2' and to grow all the plants in this one large pot. I will then mix one bag of perlite with the 2 bags of miracle grow organic soil, so the soil can drain nicely.

That's a horrible idea. Separate those plants immediately before the roots get all tangled up! You don't know the sex of the plants yet so the males would waste so much root space. I highly suggest against all the plants in one pot.

The Cool Tube HPS has arrived a day earlier than expected. I got a free upgraded bulb, so now I am using the AgroMax 600 watt HPS. Apparently HTG supply was out of the cheaper bulb I had requested, so they gave me something better.

I have also separated some of the other plants into other pots. I will post pictures when I get access to a camera. This light is so bright, it's like having the sun in your grow room haha

The Cool Tube HPS has been installed in the grow box. I was able to use no dryer duct. I adopted a friend's plant because he can no longer take care of it, so now I have a 3 foot female plant that has yet to flower. I'm thinking, what the fuck am I supposed to do with this thing... it's so big. I should get a decent yield off the plant, and I would like to note, that it has been growing for over a year.

13 Feb 2009: Midnight.

I've been high all day on cannabis butter. Mmmm. So stoney. Wait a minute this isn't a regular journal. Why am I writing about this?

Well this grow journal is lame at this point because I haven't been able to get pictures. Just for the fuck of it, I'll update this thing everyday. You people can read this grow journal, which is partly the ramblings of a really stoned guy and partly marijuana-related growing. It will make you say "what the fuck is the purpose of this grow journal?"

Progress to date:
I have ripped up a few of the little plants that weren't doing too well, but some seeds continue to sprout. I have about 16 living plants now. I am hoping for 8+ females, but we can never be certain with seeds. So the sprouts that have been growing for a few days are now on their 2nd node of leaf growth. The Cool Tube HPS is positioned roughly 4 inches from the tops of the plants. I love this thing because it allows the plants to be very close...I can touch the cool tube and it the light will not burn me, it's barely hot to the touch. And it's so bright that the light seems like the setting sun is in my living room when the box is open.

Well keep reading, soon enough I'll give you people some pictures.

Fuck, today was horrible. The HPS bulb burned out after a mere 4 days of use. To make that worse, I threw away the box. I assumed that it was going to work. Now the plant's light cycle will be all fucked up until I can scrape together the money to get a new bulb.

god damnit!!!! :cuss: :wall::wall::wall::-(

I kept the bulb off overnight while I was out of town. I came back home today and tried to turn the thing on, and to my surprise, it worked. So the bulb isn't burned out. I was so pissed off last night...but now the bulb is working so it's all good.

However, the duct fan is not working properly. I need to fix this thing as well...

This grow is kind of frustrating , but I won't give up. I am determined to grow some good shit in the weeks to come. I'll keep you all posted.

Sun 15 Feb 2009 Midnight.

I have a list of thins to get, as follows:

45 pack of rockwool cubes (1")
50'X50' Mylar
Rootech cloning gel: 2 ounces
6" Inline Duct Fan (as a replacement)

I also have not had the chance to get out to Oakland lately, which is what I have been wanting to do so I can get some clones at the cannabis cooperative. But by time I take into consideration the commute cost and cost of clones, I think I would be better off just buying some seeds from an online seed bank. I'm most likely going to use The Attitude seedbank, and was thinking about purchasing a 10 pack of Blue Cheese or Red Diesel. It looks tasty. It also looks expensive; an investment that definately will pay off in the weeks to follow.

I will also probably kill off all the other little plants in my grow box if they aren't doing well. Only a couple of them survived the transplanting, they're all doing shitty at this point except for a couple of them. I will clone the good females....

My AgroMax bulb has been burned out for the past week. All the plants are sitting under 2 CFL lights, which is keeping them alive on a 24/0 light cycle.

I am in the process of getting a replacement bulb for my system.

I plan to utilize such techiques as FIM to make a nice SCROG. I am down to 11 small plants at this point. There are about 6 nodes of leaves on each plant. The plants will do much better once they get the HPS light!

I would like to flower about 7-10 days after I get the HPS bulb running again. The plants will run on a 24/0 light cycle until flowering commences.

21 March 2009 Update:

Okay guys, so I haven't been able to update the grow journal for quite a while. Nothing interesting has happened lately, except vegitative growth.

There were about 20 seedlings growing in various containers last month when I first started. I am now down to 6 original plants from seed. There are a few of these 6 plants that are growing to massive heigths.

I have started to induce flowering on the original plants to make room for the clones in the grow box. I give them about 6 hours of direct sunlight, 6 hours of HPS light, then 12 hours of being locked in a closet.

I had planned on going to Harborside Health Center for the longest time now, and last Tuesday I actually got the chance to make it out there.

I picked up, among other things, six GRAPEFRUIT KUSH clones. Here is my catalogue of events:

1) arrived at Harborside Health Center to get my clones at 11 AM, when they first open.
2) on the drive home, my "personal chauffeur" got lost in the east bay. We ended up in San Jose before heading east.
3)while we tried to find our way back to the correct freeway, I rolled a joint of Maui Wowie. I got quite stoned.
4) ate some cannabis cookies.
5) about an hour passes and I'm very stoned.
6) my "personal chauffeur" craves a tobacco cigarette, so we pull off the side of the road on the Altamont Pass going about 45 miles per hour when we hit the gravel. I'm scared out of my fucking mind. People literally die on this thing all the time. My gorgeous box full of clones flies into the air, and I am thinking... oh fuck, these things are going to die before I can even put them into soil.
7) I get home, transplant the clones into Miracle Grow Organic soil.
8) Next day I wake up to find all of my plants horribly nutrient burn. God damn you Miracle Grow! God damn you all to hell!!!
9) re-plant all my clones in some Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil.
10) prayed to whatever diety in existance to save my beloved and expensive marijuana plants.

The next few weeks will be interesting.

update: 18 April 2009

Only six grapefruit kush clones remain. They are in day 18 of 12/12, but for some reason, the buds seem to be developing rather slowly. I believe I have a light leak that is fucking up my crop. The buds should be much larger than this by now, and I think the growth is stunted thanks to the light leak.

I'll post pictures in the final days.

Hey bro this looks like a nice little set up, you should get some pictures up of it. Scrog is the shiz, and I love the results. I will stay dialed in to see how well your scuff turns out good luck.

You know, Shit happens.

Anyway, check out my cabinet journal for some ideas. 400W scrog.
I really hate the fact that you posted in my grow journal to simply direct people to your own grow journal. What are you, a fucking telemarketer or something?

"Shit happens." That is so vague and irrelevent to this grow journal, seriously.

And to give an update; this hasn't worked out as a SCROG thus far. The plants are about 3 weeks from finishing. I'll post pictures when they are done. And I'll smoke several joints for you all since you can't be there to indulge with me
