Hey Guys,

Welcome to my latest effort. Been away for a while and havent been at my favourite hobby however I've got a set up again and trying NFT for the first time. As its my first time and I've run into my first big issue i've decided to do a grow journal so hopefully I can get some info and feedback from people more experienced in this area.

So my background is with soil. Have done quite a few grows in soil and set up a few for other people too with good success. Not saying im a pro but I have some experience. Decided to give hydro a go and after a lot of research I decided to go with hydro. A friend was good enough to sponsor me with a location and I build my set up around this area. I have one tent for flowering and one tent for my veg area

Veg area

1 x DS90 tent
2 x 2ft 4 bulb T5 fitting with blue tubes
2 x gt 205 NFT set ups
Canna aqua vega and additives
Tower oscillating fan

Flowering area
1 x DR90 tent
1 x 600w lumatek ballast with Mantis reflector and Osram plantstar 600w bulb
2 x gt205 NFT set ups
2 x 125 mm fans, One is connected to a carbon filter and sucks air from both rooms and blows out of tents. The other sucks air from outside to both tents
1 x Oscillatiin fan
Canna Aqua flores and additives

I x standard Ph pen
1 x Bluelab truncheon

I am growing 10 plants in the 2 trays I have just moved my from veg area to my flower tent. I understand that 5 is too many for a nft set up that size however I figured Id have a hermie or male or runt that I would have to remove at some stage. Up to this point there hasn't been a problem.
In one tray I have 5 dinafem feminised Critical plus and in the other I have a Barneys laughing budda, a Bubba 76, a sweet deep grapefruit, and 2 freebies I got from attitude. A Og Kush and a Industrial Plant. The laughing budda and Bubba 76 were from a previous batch of seeds I tried to start 2 weeks before the others. Therefore they're a little ahead and have been tied down. They have been vegging since the start of October but not sure of how the exact date.

Water is Ph of 7.8 out of the back and using PH down to bring ph to around 5.2 to 5.8 I had the PPM up to about 1100 PPM in the veg tubs and saw not issues. In fact they looked super healthy and were some of the best plants I have grown. The water temp was about 68 or 69 degrees and I have covers for my rockwool so no algae in my reservoir. I'm not changing my reservoir regularly but with the 5 plants in there I'm have to top off the tank along with fresh water and nutes.

So this is where my issues arise. Probably as I thought they looked so good along came some issues to fuck me up

I moved the trays from my veg tent to flowering tent a week or two ago. They were vegged for two weeks under the 600w but I had adjusted the ballast down to 400w not to roast them. 4 days ago I was getting ready to flick them over to flowering. I decided to run just plain PH'ed water for a few days before I got my flowering nutes and added them. Had to go to my girls cousins birthday and was away for a few days. Ended up not getting to them till today. Thought they'd be all great and lush but got a big fright.

They did not look good. They had gone all veiny and looked very dry and some yellowing. I expected some bleaching from the 600w watt but these didnt look good. Checked my pumps and all good. I am using a spreader matt in one tub and not the other as a experiment. All were getting water.

Is it possible that this sudden loss of nutrient solution has caused them to develop nutrient deficiency?

I topped off the tubs and added nutrients to 800 ppm with a PH of 5.2. Hopefully this will resolve the issue but need to check tomorrow. Temps are a little high but nothing crazy. Took some photos and appreciate all feedback or guidance that anyone could offer

Cheers

Hey dude can you pop in just before or after the timer comes on or goes off.
grab some pics with a regular light becuse its hard to tell what colours were talking about under that hps.

It does look like the high temps might be drying out the leaves, or possibly a ph nutrient lockout, hard to tell without colour.

Yeah Ill grab some better photos tomorrow when I head over. Is it possible that the drooping is from the sudden drop in nutrient level in the water?

Im no expert on hydro but I just have 1 bit of advice u can ignore it or use it. So in you're dr90 u have got ten plants and lets just say you lost 2 of them for wotever reason that would still leave 8 plants inside in you're tent . I grow in soil inside a 1.2 x 1.2 x 2m tent i use do 8 plants inside of it and i use get a decent yield off of them but then 1 grow i done 4 plants and actually got better looking better yielding plants in the same space since then my last 3 grows have all been just four plants in that area under my 600w with mantis shade. Less plants in the area means healthier , bigger yielding plants. It also cuts down the ammount of work involved in taking care of the garden also. So wot iv found is less plants = more buds :bigjoint:Hope this help u in you're future grows bud :leaf:

It all depends on strain and you can do 36 in a 1.2m2 tent 9cm square pots with one week veg and get a big yield.

less plants more veg = big yield
more plants less veg = big yield too but less time

They look overwatered check your pump it's meant to be running slow them plants are too small once they get bigger you can let it flow faster

good luckkk

I definitely hear what your saying. Next time round I hope to be using clones from my veg area and only doing 3 in each tub. Appreciate the advice though

So I took a few pictures today with the 600w off. Only iphone pictures but hopefully someone can share some light on my situation. The critical mass tub looks to have responded well overnight however the mixed tub seems quite droopy still but a little better. The first 4 pictures are the critical plus the last few are the mix bag

If u wer to do 36 in a 1.2m2 rent then that could get messy and require extra work . I work with an extra veg tent so veg time is no problem for me i normally veg for 3 to 4 weeks b4 putting them into the flower tent . I like to grow nice plants that look great so every1 to their own .
Everything i grow i grow to smoke for myselfbongsmilie so i try put the HIGHest care into mine and i dont think i could get the same quality if i was to do 36.
After christmas im going to start a 8 pot undercrrent DWC under 2 600w hps with mantis shades in a 2.4x1.2m tent .
How many would put into an area? What kinda yields do u get? And last question what system would u be using?

I would stick with the nft n sgrog 4 bad ass plants if done right you could get 60 oz in total of the dank :)

4 5 weeks with a even canopy when your happy flip them :)
I dunno man. Thats very quick. Your saying do 4 bad ass plants. Hopefully getting 60oz of dryed pot? Break down. 15oz dried per plant. They would want to be massive and scrogged a lot. What sort of lights and area are you talking about? Taking that most of us would be doing well to get one gram per watt 60 oz is 1680 grams. So you'd want to be using 3 600w which would cover 3m x 3m. Not a small area. Finally your trying to scrog 1 plant to cover nearly a m2 each. No way thats going to happen in 4 to 5 weeks. Not been smart but I'd love a few more of your tips if your getting that sort of return

60oz is nutz from four plants i would be happy with 3oz from each lady TBH but im growing in soil not hydro. And i dont think any1 else doing hydro would get that either in such a short time . Im just going to take it u meant to type 30 instead of 60 for wotever reason thats a bit more realistic IMO :)

Here a little update as I've not been on here for a little while. So it appears that the reason for the problem with my plants was the reduction of the nutes in the water. Seems like it just shocked the hell out of them so wont make that mistake again.

Since then the plants have bounced back really really well. In fact they have taken off amazingly. They are just finishing there second week of 12/12 and there are female flowers on all the 10 plants. Did think id have at least one that would be male but just need to keep an eye on any hermies that may appear.

Currently I dont have any of the canna boost but keeping the PPM at about 1200 to 1400. Hasn't had any adverse affect so will keep at it. Plants are using about 8 to 10 litres of water every 4 to 5 days. I know it'll only get worse too as they get bigger so maybe using less plants next time would sort this a little. Even though the systems are made for 3 plants instead of 5 so far theres been no issues.

The one thing I have noticed is I drop the ph to about 5.0 when I refill and in 4 days or so the ph has risen to 7.0. Any ideas as to why this might happen?

Got my seeds for my next go and will be popping tonight.
2 x Barneys Farm Liberty Haze
2 x Barneys Farm Red Dragon
2 x Resin Seeds Yummy
2 x Next Generation Grapefruit Diesel
1 x G13 Labs White Lavender
1 x G13 Labs Cheese
1 x Dinafem Seeds Blue Hash

Probably wont be doing the last three as only got them as freebies but has anyone got any experience with them?

Heres some photos of the current babies now that they've bounced back
