600w or 1000w for Secret Jardin Grow Tent?

Hey, thanks for stopping by. I have a DR150, 4'11"x4'11x6'7" I think. Anyways, I am going to buy a new light for it since my cheap old 400w HTG light just isn't cutting it anymore. I am debating either getting a 600w and upgrading to two one day or getting a 1000w and still maybe upgrade to two of those one day. Would two air-cooled 1000w lights be too much for a 5x5x6'7 tent to handle or would I be better off getting one 600 then another later down the road when needed?

600w - http://www.greners.com/packages/grow-light/600-watts/quality-king-600-grow-light-package.html
(I talked to greners and they said they could change the ballast out for a Lumatek for 20 bucks extra so I would do that for sure.)

or

1000w - http://www.greners.com/packages/grow-light/1000-watts/performance-saver-1000-grow-light-package.html

$50 difference. I'm thinking that 600w bulbs are just about as expensive as 1000w if not more for some manufacturers so why not get a 1000w if my tent can handle one or maybe even two.

I will buy a 6" valuline 435cfm fan (http://www.plantlightinghydroponics.com/valueline-inch-435-cfm-centrifugal-inline-fan-p-2260.html) to cool either my 1 600w (eventually two if possible) or my 1 1000w (maybe two if possible.) Does anything think that is overkill or under-kill? I can upgrade to the 8" reflector for no extra cost I believe.
Any suggestions or words of advice would be much appreciated, I would like to order one of the two lights today (02/08/2011) if possible. Thanks for all and any input!

Maybe get one of those Lumatek dimmables that can run both 1000w and 600w bulbs. Buy/borrow some used bulbs to test out the heat. If 1000w is impractical, then you can scale back to 600w and still have the option to go bigger later on (perhaps in the winter?).

this tent can handle 1 1000w but certainly not 2. a single 600 may be too small for it except if you get light mover or go vertical

How big of a fan do I need to cool one of those appropriately for a tent? Thanks for the reply!

I dont know what the hell half these people are talking about 2 600w Is WAY MORE EFFICIENT then 2 1000ws In terms of Energy Consumption, How close you can get them to the plants etc etc. I would say screw the 1000 get 2 600w but its your choice but ask around alot of people will tell you what im telling you

500cfm + better to get it stronger with fan controller. that said, Hotsause has a point, 2 600's is SLIGHTLY more efficient and not much more, however you will be spending 200w more than a single 1000 which will by itself give enough lumens for the space. check lumen output on light and calculate, you need minimum 5000lumens/sq.ft + to flower

Hotsause, good to hear from you, I was looking through your journal with the super soil last night. Nice work my friend. I think I'm gonna start with one 600w for now and see how I handle temps and everything before I decide to up to two. Do you think I should start off by getting the Valueline 435cfm 6" inline or do you think one of these would be fine to start off with http://www.greners.com/catalog/product/view/id/4144/s/ecoplus-inline-duct-booster-160-cfm/category/139/
I figured if that can cool one 600w (no scrubber or anything just the light) decently, then when I up to two I can just you it as an intake or exhaust fan on my tent and get a better fan for the lights at that point. What do you think?

I decided to go ahead and go for the 600 watt setup to start off.
-Lumatek 600w Dimmable ballast
-Sunleaves Sun Spot 95% reflective air cooled hood
-Ultra Sun 600w HPS bulb
-Yo Yo hangers
Total: $284.95

I've also decided to go ahead and get the Valuline 6" 435cfm inline which will cost about $105 total. So my lighting system will cost approximately $390.00 with shipping and everything included in that price. Plus I still have a 400w which I'm sure I can put to use if needed. Thanks for all the input! I am pleased with my decision, thanks everyone!

Nice choice as far as a fan i went with the HTG Combo Scrubber and Fan 6' They work well Took my temps down significantly. Good choice with the 600 again YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED. Also check out the 600w Club alot of helpful info in their and its one of the most active clubs on RIU. Anyway since your not worried about a Scrubber right now just a Fan should cool it down and suck the hot air out

a single 600 can cover like 4x4 max, don't let canopy get much bigger. i'd say if i had these dimensions, either shrink room or get a 1kw. a 600 is just slightly more efficient in lumen per watt provided you get the best bulb. oh by the way, if you're growing right, a 600 should supply you with more than you can smoke. last grow i did i had 2 400's damn i got too much bud i thought they will get old deteriorate in quality a fuss to store lol, so i killed my perpetual grow and quit growing for a long time, and thats not fun you get to miss this hobby. next time i grow i'll do single 150w vertical. so in short, try perfect a single light grow before you expand. expanding is not the best way always. more light and room needs more venting work and spending.
what strain are you growing??
