so i just picked up my 600w mh/hps and it has a dimmable ballast and im wondering if i can put my week old plant under the 600w or should i lower it to the lowest setting the options are 400w,250w. i have height to work with so i can keep the plant a few feet away.

yeah i agree with del, maybe abit to much to early, but it shouldnt be to much,,it may be abit to much as you will have to have a larger distant from the top of the plant as a 600w runs very hot, and may strech the plant too much,,well my 600 ran hot, you should set it up run it for few hours and get the temps and everything right. At that stage it may also be good to have the soil abit warmer than the surronding air temp, but that gettin ahead,,
may i ask why the 600w for a single plant or are you going to clone offa it,? as 600w would do alot of plants

Nice plant though,,

this is my first grow and i got the 600w off my buddy for super cheap and it was brand new so i couldnt pass up a deal like this and for now its one plant there will be more in the future forsure. im gonna be in a farley big area also 10x10 space but only 5 feet tall and i will have two fan circulating the air in the room. and the bulb is a sinowell not to sure if they are good its just a wholesale bulb im pretty sure. so do you think i should dim the llight as mmuch as possible?.

hey.. well they say seedling and clones dont need much light for the first few weeks, so I guess it would be up to you how much you want to spend on eleccie, maybe run low till flower and then full blast for flower. Or start low and as the plant gets larger and taller crank it up so that you get the lower leaves light as it gets bigger. Personally I would run at the stated wattage for the bulds you have. So 600w for MH and 600w for the HPS, and get another bulb for lower wattages, means the bulds will work at there best for the best lifetime. Thats just me though,..also means you can save the 600w bulds for when you have 4-5 plants.
Thats a nice looking lighting rig,, as its cooled I think you would be fine with temps.. maybe vent with one of your fans and circulate for the other, cause that helps alot.
