Ive had an extra flood light sitting around now for a while. I used it to bring a plant back to life last year for a little while. but now im going to make it the main light in my stealth dresser. Its a 65watt Fluorescent Area light from home depot for $50. The box says it puts out 6,885 lumnes. My grow area is only 16" deep x 27" high x 38" long. I planted 9 germinated seeds yesterday. they havent come up yet. just wondering if this light is going to be enough for this small area. It comes with a small reflective hood so the dresser is light up really well when it is on. let me know your thoughs.

a 12$ canadian 45watt cfl gives off 3000 lumens so for 24$ you got that 6000 lumens, why spend 50$? also for that price you can find a security light that is a hps or mh with way more watts

well i already had the light. and a cfl is alot better with energy consumption. im a poor college student, trying not to up my bills. other then that, the light seems to be ok? i think its better then 5 or so 24watt cfl's... no?

Your gonna use that light for 9 plants??? People use 1000watt HPS for 9 plants...I have one plant in veg right now and i have 3 23watt 6500k on it and thats one plant and i could use more light....

i have nine now because i want atleast 4 females out of the bunch to grow for harvest. im probably gunna get another light like an 85watt cfl along with this 65watt when i have my final 4 in veg and flower. no thinks this light is good enough to start some seedlings? this thing is fuckin bright

i was going to try to, but from what ive been hearing it doesnt look like it will happen with great success. its a really small area so i think it should be good for 2 weeks or so, at least to start the seedlings

That light if no more then 6in. away from the plants will grow them all for the first week before they start showing signs of lacking light. Instead of buying an 85watt bulb for a bunch of mula, go buy a bunch of 42 watt 2700k bulbs for your whole grow. 3 per plant. Keep in mind you can use cfls very efficiently by using there sides as light not the tips. Aka just use them as lighting in-between plants.
Example.. 1 light above 1 plant or 1 light between 3 or 4.
From what is sounds like though you dont have the spiral type of cfl you have the cone shaped flood style so i would say use that for top only..
Go buy spiral cfls for cheaper and more usage...
I like the stealth though.

Come check out the 2 in one journal and get some ideas..

And use 6500k for veg and 2400k for flowering...Don't do 2400k through out the grow...Trust me i did that and i switched to 6500k and they shot up...

In Costco You can get a 65w floodlight with a hood that you just have to wire to a plug to $20. In Northern California right now PGE is giving an instant discount that makes in $10. An absolute steal for a 65W bulb with built in hood, 6500k.

I know that not everyone has a Costco card but if you have a friend they can buy you a cash card(Costco gift card) for $20+ and then you can go there on a one off.
