I am (for the first time) trying to replenish my seed supply (White Rhino) I am on day 11 of flowering and have 7 females, and 4 males, I want to thin things out and don't think i need 4 males to pollinate 7 females, My question is can I cut some of the males out of the mix? I am mainly concerned with root rot.
I think 1 male would be good enough to pollinate the females. If I cannot cut the males down, can I top them about half way down? thinking they would survive and root rot would not be an issue. If I did just cut them down, is there a way to deal with the root rot? maybe a mix of peroxide?

absolutely you can cut some of them out..... I would...... and yeah, a peroxide mix should eat up the dead roots.......

Should i use it for the rest of the grow? keeping in mind i have no idea when the roots are going to begin to rot, I am planning on leaving 1 male does that sound good to you?

thats what I would do........ no need for more than one. make sure it's the best one you got.

Is the peroxide something that you would have to add every day or every other day or only during a complete nute change, I guess what i am asking is does it lose it's ability to work after a few days or is it effective until you stop adding it to the mix? So it would last until the next nute change? Can i use the 3% strength that you would buy off a store shelf?

hydrogen peroxide will have to be added periodically if you want to maintain the peroxide treatment.

hydrogen peroxide slowly reacts to form water and oxygen gas (bubbles), peroxide is consumed over time.

the link posted above says to make a 5% solution for foliar spray, my bottle says 3% solution for oxygenating water.

i don't think a person would want 3% strength from the store unless they plan on using that as a water source too :)

Picked up some Super Proxy 35% today, I was going to leave 1 male plant to the 7 females, but i decided to whack them all (4 total) So i am gonna use the peroxide to help keep the root rot under control. I assume the roots will start rotting , i am only on day 12 of flowering. Am i headed in the right direction?

If you really don't know the exact traits of the males you might want to keep them. This would add 4x to the diversity of the offspring.

Just like you and me every plant will be a little bit different. Even F1 crosses show a little genetic drift. The more males you keep the better the chances are that you will find just the right combination of genes for the killer strain.

If you're crossing two F1 strains of the same type you can get some interesting stuff. Kind of like if you were to marry your sister if you know what I mean... The kids might come out blue and be good at playing the banjo. (hehe)

I used to separate the males and collect the pollen. I'd then use a small paintbrush and paint individual buds with each type of pollen.

Then I would cover the buds with a small white paper sack for a few days to keep the pollen from spreading to the whole crop. Keep the extra pollen in the freezer and don't forget to label the different types.

You would be suprized at the differences using different males can make. Think about it for a second. One of those males might be the Michel Jordon of THC. The other might be Pee Wee Herman.

Until you grow out the seeds you will never know.
