8 cobs 4x4 area?

I recently just ordered
8- Cree CXB3590 3500k 36v DB bin cobs
8-150*70mm pre-drilled pin heatsinks
2- HLG-185H-C1400B
And all the holders and reflectors and stuff. But how will 8 cobs do in a 4x4 area and how could you space them or arrange them?

It's best to work that out before you buy everything. But to answer your question the way I would do it is with angled aluminum and spacing them out one per every two feet. So something like this.

36"x36"
3 on the sides 2 in the middle then 3 more on the other side. Space them out evenly and if possible, that parts up to you but the easiest way is to put them in straight lines. If you want to make it more difficult then try to keep them all equal distances apart making the COBs into a circle for the best coverage.

The standard rule of thumb is to use the 1Cob bed sq/ft rule

Yeah as far as framing material that's what I have. Yeah I seen one guy do it like that three on the outside and two in the middle. I might try the circle method I just need the cobs so I can get them turned on so I can see the foot print of each one. And evenly over lap the edges. Ok 1cob=1sq/ft that's good to know. Just wanted to get an idea for spacing. And I will definitely be buying more cobs thus is just a trial to see if I like them. I am building a 10x12 grow shed with electricity and filtered water supplied to it. I appreciate the advice.

Currently running this setup in my dr120. 3-2-3 setup.
For spacing the 3 have 14" centers from cob. The 2 centers are also 14". This leaves 10" center from the reflective walls to the corner COBs.
So if looking front to back, Spaced them 12" on center of eachother. My weakest. spot is the center 2. They are 16" off the. walls.
Twelve 3590s would be awesome. Nine would be good. Eight is sufficient.

Just noticed sticker saying dont touch cob surface. Havent seen/heard that before. If you clean them before use with rubbing alcohol, what does it hurt to touch the surface? I know ive done it several times on my cobs and havent noticed any issues caused by it...

Yeah not sure first time I've bought cobs but never seen it on anyone else's that's posted theirs. I'll be cleaning the back sides and +/- terminals. I'm a noob when it comes to cobs first build and super stoked to see how it performs.

I'm curious as to your choice of the 200W 185H-C1400 driver. The constant current range is 71-143V. Your 36V COBs have a forward voltage of 144V. Wouldn't the 320W 320H-C2100 at 76-152V provide more headroom and allow you to dim the COBs for better efficiency? I'm brand new to LEDs so I'm still trying to figure this stuff out.

the cree does not use 36v at this current so he will be fine with that driver config. @NorthernEmeraldNursery nice work on getting those DB bins should be a sweet setup.

We'll the place I got everything from only had these Drivers in and I had seen a lot of people run these Drivers on 4 cobs each at around 200w each so hopefully I'll ruffly get about 400w. And it has a dimming ability. I will be hooking up a pot to dim down to 10%. If everything goes good and I like the cob lights I when I order more cobs I will definitely be bumping up the drivers to get more power. I'm new to cobs as well so any advice is appreciated.

I would suggest a configuration of 3 rows of 4 COBs each to cover a 4x4. Here's a shot of my 2x4x6 w/6 plants 3gal smartpots. An afterthought, too many plants for a 2x4 that I think I overvegged for a tent. Reduced plant count to 3, 2 Blue Dream, 1 Kush N Cheese. which just had enough room to do their thing.
GrowMau5 had a great vid that went over the appropriate number of COBs for a 3x3, 4x4, 5x5, the number of COBs and the best drivers. Vid is no longer on the channel. I'll repost it on my channel.
But, fear not, you can make what you have work w/some creative designing. You see I made use of 4 CXB 3590, similar to yours, for the 2x4, imagine how it would work doubled for your
use. Just a thought.
