8th wk 12/12, i'm begging for your help!

what i thought was no big deal seems like it's turning into a major problem... maybe i'm just freaking out, but this is a time when i could really use some help.

many of you out there seem to think my girls have got 2-4+ weeks to go 'til harvest, but my fan leaves are all going yellow and falling off- in the above pic, you can see that they are looking sparse around the bottom where the leaves have fallen off, and this is working it's way to the top. i was thinking this was the natural progression of things as harvest draws near, but if there are weeks to go, then i don't see how the plants are going to survive!!! should i give them nutes? there are no nutes in my medium, so i really need some advice about whether or not i should give them some now, and if so, what? stick with big bloom? some people say molasses, and then some say that is bs... i'm confused

i'll try to boil it all down:

1st grow, bagseed, nothing special, no idea of species/strain. seem to exhibit sativa traits, in terms of leaf structure.

2 female plants, one was a rootbound runt, germ through veg was 40 days.

medium is b'cuzz cocosubstrate, used fox farm grow big for veg, and fox farm big bloom for flowering. had a little nute burn showing on one leaf a couple weeks ago, and then i fed plain water, and gave nutes one more time about a week ago. it's been just plain water since then, and i've been letting the pots get pretty much completely dry in between thorough saturations, and during 12/12 it's been about every 3-4 days. water comes straight from the tap, has no measurable chlorine, and the ph is right around 7, haven't tweaked it to perfection, but it is not significantly out of whack. maybe there has been nute lock out from excessive salt build up or something, so maybe going back on nutes would be good now??

co2 boost in use since beginning of grow (it will probably be exhausted soon, if not already). pots are about 3.2 gal, and the plants are a few inches over 3 feet (have been for a few weeks, at least!)

400watt mh (used for entire grow) is now 7 inches from tops of plants, seems to be plenty cool enough when i hold my hand under the light at that level. have four 26w cfls around tops as well. have had a little light burn from those here and there, when some of the leaves have touched the cfls.

room has an air conditioner and a dehumidifier and a fan, temp 80 deg f plus or minus 2 deg, humidity 40-50%.

many trichomes are looking cloudy/milky under the scope, no amber, a good bit are still clear.

the plants just look like they haven't significantly grown in weeks. the buds have grown a bit, but aren't fattening up nearly as much as i thought they might.

please help me out guys, even if it's just telling me i'm freaking out about nothing, i really need to figure out if there's something i need to change about what i'm doing :cry::cry: is there any other info i could provide?

when your about at the 8th week your leaves will automatically turn yellow not neccessarly from lack of nutes....the plant kicks out extra nitro cause not needed this late into flowering you shoiuld just be using water now no nutes.....hope that helps

thanks- that's cool, i guess i'm worried because if my plants have weeks to go, and they are in coco fiber, they have no nutes at all... how will they survive?

My plants always drop their leaves in the last 2 weeks as well.
Some people like to harvest early but i like to wait until they have dropped all of their fan leaves and i then wait for about a week until all of the false seed pods have swollen up and then i leave it in darkness for 1-3 days depending on size and fatness.

I would say that the main reason that your buds are smallish is that youve used a mh bulb.
Feed small amounts of molasses,1 teaspoon per 2 litres of water,in the last week feed them nothing and water them only once minimally and then leave for 2 days in total darkness, making sure that your medium is dry before you do so.

My personal opinion is that if you want the up high then harvest them when most of the fan leaves have dropped of.
If you want the narco high then wait until they are all dropped and then leave them one more week to swell and then 2 days of darkness for your size plant:blsmoke:

theyll be fine how many weeks does that bud take to finish....2 to 3 weeks before the cycle is done i usually give only water...u can use 2 tablespoons of malasses per gal( but do research on it first) that will help your buds get a little mor plump but they look ok i wouldnt worry...but i feel ya i had one of my best plants fall over and I almost had a heart attack all that time then goes to waste...but looks good...

i think they're just finishing up...

another week or so... more like two...

just keep going with the plain water... they'll be done soon enough friend

go smoke a bowl and calm down =]
and don't ever hesitate to ask for help!
thats what we're all here for

Yeah I think it's just the flowering process working it's way through the process. Looks like you are flushing already so I wouldn't worry too much...good luck bud.

that makes sense. i think i'm going to get a 600w hps and use both that and the 400w mh for my next grow's flowering cycle.
Feed small amounts of molasses,1 teaspoon per 2 litres of water,in the last week feed them nothing and water them only once minimally and then leave for 2 days in total darkness, making sure that your medium is dry before you do so.

so you guys are thinking it might be good to add molasses then... i could pick some up at the store today and use it with my next watering- i'll read up some more about molasses- it's been awhile since i have read in depth about it.

that's a cool way to look at it, i've never heard of that, but it adds some depth to the signs i'm trying to look for in deciding when to harvest- thanks for your tips natmoon!

i feel ya i had one of my best plants fall over and I almost had a heart attack all that time then goes to waste...
i know, that's why i'm kinda freaking out here lol... i really appreciate your 2 cents here!

thanks guys! so you think i shouldn't bother with the molasses then? do you think it would hurt if i used it this week, and then laid off after that... maybe use it for the next two waterings?
go smoke a bowl and calm down =]

that i will do- a bowl would probably fix all of the problems:blsmoke:

you guys all rock- thank you so much for helping me!!! :peace::peace::peace:

imho......

continue feeding as you normally would. you have a sativa (very common of bagseed) and from the looks of it, you're right; a few weeks more at least.

i just harvested an outdoor plant today that was planted in starter soil five months ago. i used it for a mom, and flowered it. no nutes. ever. no water for over a month at a time. about a half ounce of dry stuff i expect. starving your plants will cause you to lose fan leave in late flower. most believe that this is good, it takes the nutes out of the plants and makes them eat themselves....

that's great, but a good flush period will do that for you. i've never heard of a crop going bad for going an extra week longer... ;)

feed until you know it's time to cut; then flush. this way you get the most out of your plants, as they do gain the most weight in the final weeks of flower.

thank you kp! very informative! i was corresponding with nongreenthumb, and what he said basically agrees with that. i guess, in a sense, maybe i should look at my medium (coco fiber) as being closer to hydro, nute-wise...

lol, squeaky wheel gets the grease... ah, but i think in kp's case, kind is a double-entendre

Hey Love it... I must admit, That i have not read the thread.. I just loooked at the pictures...

Plant looks pretty normal for the 8th week of flowering...

The only issue I see is.. STRETCHING.... pretty normal for a LOW wattage grow.. BUT other than THAT, looks like you are gonna get some CHRONIC!

that's cool, thanks- makes sense about the stretching... early on, when i was figuring out what to do with my light, i had it way too far away for awhile... but, for my next grow, i'll be adding a 600w hps to the 400w mh for 12/12 i think, and i'll keep the mh closer through veg... gonna get an air cooled hood, and maybe a light mover, too, so that'll be fun :hump:
