8x1000w or 12x 600w?

hey guys, first off, awesome board, some informative stuff on here, great guide for newbies. That being said, I was curious for your guys opinion on which would have better YIELDS; Running 8 1000w lights over 80 plants or 12 600 watts over 120-130 plants? I've been reading this 1000w vs 600w arguments everywhere but most people are comparing 1x1000 for 1x600 which obviously 1000 is better but what if you increased the number of 600's to compensate for lost lumens yet are still using just the same amount of energy as 1000w, just more lights?

I'm a fan and user of the 600 watt lamps. 600s are more efficient, grams/watt. That said however, if you run 8000 watts you should out-yield the 7200w of the 600s, add another 600 for 7800w and it will be closer. Also, a lot of people will run a 600 over 1000 to help with heat issues. In your situation, you will have to have good heat control with either setup so I would go for the better yield and deeper penetration of the 1000s. The only possible reason I could imagine the 600s would be better is if the area is so large and the extra 4 lights will make significant help with the coverage.

Oh yea, BTW, welcome to RIU. I just noticed this was your first post (probably because I'm :eyesmoke:)

good point... but do you think because the 600's are much closer to the canopy that they will actually get more lumens as apposed to 1000's which has to be situated 10-12"s higher? I'm trying to look it in a way as who cares how much light the bulb produces, what should be the concern is how much light the plant is receiving...does that make any sense?? or am I the one :eyesmoke:now, lol

I prefer 600s basically because more lights equal more area that gets covererd and also they are much better on the power bill. 600s can and do produce massive yields.

i use 2 aircooled 600 (grolux) lamps, and would never go back to 1000 , the heat is a major pain in the ass !

I'm actually taking a different approach to the question. To me the difference has to do with how tall your plants end up.

If you grow your plant over 3ft. You will get better light penetration with 1000W lights. This means less popcorn buds and more quality smoke.

You can't have too much light, only too much heat. Vented hoods and A/C make heat a non issue. Dehumidifiers will take care of any humidity problems.

Don't worry about efficiency. I harvest over a pound every three weeks from a 7x8 closet with 3-1000W lights. What's a pound of killer bud worth in your area?

it goes to personal choice i use digital poot lamps 9x600watts to cover my 48 iws multi pot system, for me 600watts are better value with the lumens, and a lot less heat than the 1000watts,but what ever you buy the next thing you need is a good vent system the best you can afford to fit your room, good luck

Well, you can be like Heath Robinson and pull down 2.5 lbs per 600W lamp...
Don't worry about efficiency. Why? Let me explain:

Right now I average about 20oz. per harvest, usually more. I harvest every three weeks. My flowering room is a small 7x8 closet.

I give my medicine away to my patients for free but if an ounce of killer bud goes for $300, then what is my harvest actually worth.

$300 x 20 = $6000
That's every three weeks. How much is electricity? Who gives a fuck when your harvesting $6K every 3 weeks? Get my point? What would you do with $6K every three weeks?

All the instructions and plans are in this thread.

Check out page 75 for all the plans in one place.

This thread has complete plans and instructions on how to build a cloner, Veg system and flowering system.

Many other people are currently having unreal success with my system. Out of hundreds (maybe thousands) of clones. Not one has died yet!

Check it out. It's the same article as the one I wrote for the June 09 High Times issue on the shelf now.

And don't forget to "Spread the Love".
