8x8 Grow Room thoughts

So I have an 8'x8' area that I will be turning into a grow room soon. I will have to veg, flower and dry in this space. I know that's asking a lot from that size area but looking for suggestions from people experienced with small space grows. I will only be growing for personal use so max/large yield is not my number one priority. I just want my space to be as smartly done as possible.

My original plan was to have two 4x4 areas ... one for veg and one for flower, leaving me with a 4x8 vacant space for mixing nutes, cloning and/or starting seeds. This however doesn't leave me any room for drying/curing. I would like to put a small counter into that area ... could the drying be successfully done inside of a cabinet?

Will entertain any ideas?

I use 8x8x7 . You can veg and seed in an over and under set up but drying is another story . Humidity is the concern . I do it all in my space but it ain't easy to do all at once .

Thanks for replying Bareback. Yeah the humidity concerns me a lot, especially because I live in a very humid climate. I will definitely have a dehumidifier in hand when this project is complete. I wonder if I'm not overthinking this ... I guess I could always plan my grows out leaving me enough time to actually hang the buds in the veg room while my clones/seedlings finish vegging. Once that is done then I could rinse and repeat. I don't need to grow a lot, just enough. I also considered making my flower and veg rooms 3x4 ... that would leave me enough room for a 2x4 dedicated finishing room.

I like the idea of a drying period in the flower room, then rinse and repeat.

I would go with a little larger flower room myself. I currenly have a 10x 10 flower room and use 2 closets as my veg rooms. I clone on the top shelf of one closet then slowly move the plants into bigger pots when I get them into 5 gal pots I put them in the second closet for one week then rotate them into the flower room, This is just how I do it but it works well for me.

Ive tried to dry my fresh cut herbs in the flower room before, hanging on strings above the lights. It dried the buds to fast, but I only have 50% humidity

Yeah, I'm leaning into a rotational schedule. Unfortunately I can't go any bigger than the 8x8 and that's carving a chunk of valuable real estate in an out-building ... also it has to remain secretive. So I'm back to leaning to two 4x4 areas, one veg one flower and just leaving enough calendar time for drying in between flower runs. I think I can plan it out.

Keeping humidity down will be the problem. What is an optimal drying humidity?

Another thing to consider is ventilation ... could you run both rooms off of one fan and two filters?? And would it be better to use insulated ducting for ventilation or could it be run into more permanent PVC? The exhausted air will be routed through a awning vent so no problems there -- once it's gone through the charcoal filters.

I use PVC pipe on a long run with a 6" fan but only one filter . But I also only filter during mid and late flower and drying.

This is more or less what I'm working towards. I just have to put one wall up with a door, and I can make an 8x8x8 flower room. Its going to be my summer project. I'll just have to relocate one cabinet that is currently my clone/veg space.

I believe since I'm not intending to supply anyone other than myself, I can plan out my calendar to have the time to do a complete run and cure before starting the next one. So I will have a 4x4 custom closet inside of the 8x8 grow room and I will have a veg area in the "main" part of the room. I will dry in the flower room when the plants are done with lights off and the exhaust running.

Can anyone tell me if I can drop a second filter off of my insulated ducting to provide air exchange/filtering in the "main" area of the room?

Ordered my light last night. I want to go with a PCL cob fixture, but just can't afford it right now, so I picked up a Mars-Hydro II 700 to get my feet wet. As I can I will be converting this over to COBs.

Yes you can use two filters, you just need to add dampers to control air flow and avoid path of least resistance.

personally i am waiting until i have the money to order from timber grow lights and get me some crees... Growmau5 is very good at walking people through the ins and outs of LEDs i would highly recommend his videos... i am also looking at a similar space and have similar plans.

Hi. I am just in the planning process of a very similar grow room. Total newb. I'm going to put a 8x8 room in my 30x30 insulated, unconditioned shop. The purpose is for 4 plants max. I can dry in the rest of the shop so that's not a concern.

My hangup at the moment is our climate. It can be -22F in the winter and 93F in the summer. I think I'll have to accept the fact my grow season will be 2/3 year and shutting down for proper winter. I don't want to invest in year round air conditioning for the shop.

If you have 93f summer days you're going to need some sort of AC. -22 berrrr

Yeah, the same here, I won't be growing all year ... probably a fall and spring crop only.

I use a 8x8 she'd, divided in half for veg and flower. Check out my build thread! I'm about to add some more pics right now as I have added alot to it today. You can definately make 8x8 feet into a very usable grow room. Mine is actually 8x 12 with a partitioned off room as you walk in and a stealth door to the grow room. The small front room is 4x8.

My summers are 90+ but humidity stays about 30 and below outside.

I seperated the 8x8 with a tarp on a 2x4 frame. I had one small fan that moves air from veg to flower, untill today . Now I use a 4 inch blower to pull cool air through the tarp from veg to flower.

When I built the false wall I framed a box fan in the wall, and put a cabinet on the side that is exposed. Cut a hole in the cabinet and leave the doors open. My AC blows directly towards the cabinet, the box fan pulls the cool air through the wall into the veg room.
The fan in the wall and my exhaust are both on a climate controller. On at 78 degrees, off at 71 degrees.
My ac stays on 72 degrees, 24/7. This keeps my air intake temp the same all the time and works very well.
I also have a small oil type electric heater that is on a timer to turn on from 11:30 pm to 4:00 am.

I dry in my veg room in a drying rack.. not perfect but I am working on perfecting my methods. Maybe one day lol
