90 degrees and rising HELP! 3600 watt grow room!

when i had multiple 600w running in a smallish area here is what i did.

Two-three lamps per 8in fan ducting to out the grow room
Carbon Scrubber + 8in fan for ambient air scrub per 10x10 space
Ac units in the summer, multiple intakes for winter.


A couple things to consider:
1. If you are growing at home, and plan to use all 6 lights, be aware of how much air and smell you will be sending outdoors. 6 full plants is enough to make my 2foot phresh filter leak some scent.
2. If this is really your first time growing, please please please cut down your lights and learn to grow first, as i can almost gauarentee you will have a horrible time maintaing 6 lights with plants under them. My goal is not to discourage you, but to help you have a good foundation so you can go bigger when you want to. If i had a setup like this when i was new, i would have gone crazy

Why is it more hassle to have 6x600 than 1x600? I use a huge water resorvoir to maintan stable food, PH etc.

Do u plan on growing 50 clones from the same mother at the same time? WHere are your clones coming from? Do you know if you room is susceptible to PM or any other type of airborne fungi? Do you have a good idea of how many nutes you will be running through in a given week? Do you know how much vertical space u will need? do you know how much horizontally the plants will stretch? do you know if your genetics are stable enough that there is very little for one to hermie or throw pollen out to others? Do you have the ability to even trim all those plants? HAve you trimmed a plant before? and there are just so many more.

These are all important questions to as when ahem...going for broke as they say. Staring off commercially is a very easy way for you to lose interest in growing.
There is great reward in a setup like that, but also great failure.

Generally when people go for bigger operations, it is when they KNOW their genetics, their system is and HAS BEEN dialed in, and more than anything, have more than a couple harvests under their belt

Yes, on all of the above, I know how to handle a grow room. I just need to fix the temperature. But I see now what I have been doing wrong, but tnx anyways:)

I used sealed reflectors for my 1k and my 400w. Six cooltubes would be cheaper than 6 sealed hoods but your yeild will suffer. Just get one badass portable a/c 14000btu around $500. Those cooltubes run $90 to 120 a piece then hoods are over 200 a piece.

just out of curiosity, what electrical maitenence was done to burden the load of 3600watts + fan + misc wattage? dont want your house/grow burning down ;)

I vote for getting new air cooled reflectors. You might be able to sell all your current ones to lessen you losses

Lets beat around the bush here...

Biggest bang for your buck in this situation would be an 8000+ (10,000+ ideally) BTU A/C... duct the exhaust in to your room exhaust (after the fan preferably)

Otherwise you're buying 6 cooltubes at $100-$150 a piece

(Edit: me and Zcomfort pretty much said same thing)

What are temps in the room your pulling from? I think you just need to pull from outside versus the room next door. Air conditioners are always nice though.

1 cubic meter = 35.3146667 cubic foot 1200m3\h = 700cfm for us Americans.
Yep. So, if the room is 60 cubic meters, that's 60 x 35.3146667 = 2118 cubic feet.

A single exhaust fan pulling 700 cfm (cubic feet/min) may not be strong enough for a room this size...especially with a carbon scrubber attached.

Thats what I concluded with. I am getting a 1400cfm to use as a extraction fan. Then I will use mu excisting 700cfm for IN AIR instead.

Thats going to be a LOT of air movement! I really don`t want to use cooltubes!

Does all air cooled HPS have glass in front of the HPS lamp?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they do.

Honestly, I don't think you necessarily need to go that route. If putting in a more powerful fan doesn't lower the temps enough, you might wanna consider adding a few more intake ports/vents...preferably on an exterior wall different from the one where you already have the window vent. Just my opinion, though. I've never grown on nearly the kind of scale that you're doing, so I'm not speaking from any kind of firsthand experience....just on what I've read here on riu. Seems to me most folks running grow-ops with multiple lights use air-cooled hoods...often with several exhaust fans cooling two or even three lamps apiece. But I've seen others that don't, so it should be possible.

I don't know how feasible it is for you to try, but if you don't have a huge problem with odors right now you might consider removing the carbon scrubber for an hour or two and see what effect it has on your temps. I do believe that your filter is restricting your airflow...but I'm not sure there's any way to tell how much. You most certainly have less than 700 cfm (since scrubbers in an hvac line always increase the static pressure in the system...and slow the exhaust rate down as a result). Running your system with the scrubber could be giving you 600 cfm...or 500 cfm...who knows?

At least if you were to run your room for a while without the scrubber, and gauge what kind of temp decrease you get as a result, you might have some idea as to (1) what kind of temps you can expect with 700 cfm of exhaust fan and (2) what the "temperature cost" of the carbon scrubber really is. Might be helpful in estimating what size fan(s) you'll need to purchase in order to get your desired temp range with the scrubber attached.

I found hoods without glass, but it`s not as temperature effective as the ones with glass.

I will report back when I have changed the exchaust in\out.

I don`t have any plants there yet, I want my system to work 100% perfect before I fill the pots:) Carpenting inside the room is way to hard when there are plants there! Live to learn:)

I am hoping for at least 0,7g pr watt on the first run.

Cool, sounds like you are on the right track. Looking forward to seeing the room with plants when we get this figured out.

Ahh, that's good news. I was afraid you might have had a batch of ladies baking in that room.
Good luck with the exhaust fix...I'm optimistic that you'll find a good solution.

Looking forward to seeing some plants in there as well.

Does anyone know how much I can expect to get with this system? I mean, Ebb\flow hydro, 3600watt, perfect temperature and very good nutes. If nothing goes terribly wrong I mean.

The 1gram pr. watt, is that just a myth?

I grow the Silver haze strain;) I have heard it`s a heavy yielder!

how big are your hoods? i run a 10 inch fan with six inch duct collars on my hoods with a reducer from ten to six it shoots the heat right out but i run three lights in a straight line all the hoods connected to exhaust ...i would run two duct lines throught the hoods one on each side of three and connect them to a y so the two go to a one single exhaust make sure all your ducts and fans are secure and fastened and there is no slack or kinks

My HPS`s are not air cooled! I use best quality reflectors instead, dont know why, but I do;)

Anyone on the expected yield?

You can pull 6-8lbs off 3600 watts sog
(45 plants per 4x4)or 180 plants total 1gal pots
2 strings of 3 with (3 over each 4x8)

Why use aircooled lights:
They help u move air out of the room and wont extract your co2 (if used )with it, so removing heat rather than fighting it with ac.
SOma has a great thread on here about using the ac lights the right way and he i believe cools 4400 watts with a 12" fan

I am running 3600 watts in 8'' Blockbuster hoods with 2 strings of 3 and 8kbtu portble ac and my temps are 80-85
Insulated ducting also would help (im not using it) yet but will and possibly hard ducting for the straight shots.

Your hoods will work with proper in/out fans if not just add ac from home depot 500$ good return policy :)

man you need to get the air cooled reflectors i know everybody has been hammering you about it but its just the truth 6 600's produce allot of heat hell my 6 400's produce allot if i didnt have air cooled reflectors i would be fuct even with air moving through the reflectors my air temp rises 5 F in the room and my room is a 12x16' with 400's lol here is a pic of my setup you should definitely look into getting some better reflectors. in my opinion you should have just got 400's in the size of room you are working with.
