90W G3 UFO LED from HTG Supply for $187.95

So I've been scouring the internet for lighting options... trying to decide what to go with for my next grow. HTG Supply is usually where I end up, great selection and great prices. Anyway, I had been looking into the new Generation 3 UFO light because HTG talks it up bigtime, like its some amazing new technology emitting only 100% usable light for plants (as opposed to about 10% from HPS & MH).

I've discovered that growers are not impressed with LED because of the lack of penetrative power :hump:. lol, anyway I had pretty much decided not to go with LED but thought that I should post this just in case anyone else was thinking about it because HTG just dropped the price from like $350 or $400 to $188 for a limited time. I had been looking at them like 2 days ago, expensive. I looked again today, and the price had been cut in half. Seems like they would make great supplemental/side lighting.

I guess my point is that if anyone was planning on getting one that right now is probably the time to do it. I would like to see a grow journal with some of these lights... please post a link if you know of one. Thanks! :peace: homies

Yeah when I was checking it out today I thought I had accidentally clicked on the "mini" 50 watt version 'cuz of the price. The 90W is actually like $2 cheaper than the 50W right now!

i think this is the beggining of having these affordable if they cut that price in half again i think alot more peeps will experiment with them and find more ways we can use them to produce same if not better results than hps who wouldnt want to use them if that were possible so all in due time i think in like 5-10 years everyone will be swapping their hps for led but this to me is teh beggiinng i would swap my 400 watter with this unless i was using at least 4-5 match wattages up i dont care if they call them equal or not

I wouldn't think the price drop is an indication of the products' failure. HTG is very competitive and they run a lot of sales, probably just trying to get 'em out on the market, in use.

Personally, I"m not sold on them yet as being an adequate sole source of lighting.

their claims that the previous ufo's use the wrong spectrum is suspicious because they used blue and red led's, what's wrong with blue and redz?

i think it's that 90 watts. crank that shit up to 500 and then we'll see some shit.

Sounds like we're all on the same page. I'd definitely give 'em a try if I could have like 4 overhead and 4 more for side lighting, but even at half price thats just way too much $$$.

I'd like to see a comparison on LED and HPS same number of watts on two plants cloned from the same mother.
If LED comes close to HPS in yield then I'd like to try this shit out. Getting rid of some of the mad heat HPS gives out is a HUGE advantage. My biggest problems in my grows have been heat and power consumption.
Maybe I'll buy one of those to experiment with?

But does any of you know of any experiment where LED and HPS have been compared. And then not by the fuckin producer of some LED grow lights.

The best way to shop for lighting is dollars per watt,
pretty much no matter what.

watts used is indicative of photometric flux- light particle- that are emitted, and lumens is an efficacy measurement tailored for human sight.

therefore, 2 bucks a watt isn't cutting it. until its a buck per watt pretty much ignore the immature led market, when a hps gives you so much more.

A plant can inefficiently use most of the spectrum, and leds solve this problem... however color is second to power. Bombarding your plant with an overload of photons is what you need to be doing first.

those who are more wary of heat cause they cant or refuse to afford adequate ventilation should just stick to a dealer.
