a couple Q's about autoflowers

im looking into picking up some new autoflowering strains to compliment my white widows and lemon hazes on my next grow. im assuming that since im going to be in this grow for the long haul because of the widows taking forever to finish, that i might appreciate some autoflower buds a little over halfway thru my normal grow.

Please correct me if i am wrong, but it is my understanding that because you are halving the grow cycle AND autos grow and flower at the same time, that the time and energy normally that a normal plant dedicates to making buds is split---forcing the plant to make obvious sacrifices in exchange for a quick harvest. I think I also understand that to make up for said sacrifices (such as much smaller yields, lower thc content, lack of flavor or defining beauty qualities), breeders have experimented with complicated breeding proceedures that, once done, combines the best of two, three, or more plants to make a more fulfilling harvest.

With that said, I am considering LowryderxAK47 or Lowryderxblueberry (3 seeds fem) which would give the best harvest out of three seeds? judging by yield, potency, and flavor using a 20/4 light period, soil, nutes, and a 1000 watt HPS after 3 weeks from germ? I am also thinking of picking up some of dinafems auto kush that was featured in last months High Times top 10 strains of '10. Is 22 grams a plant really what I am looking at, or can this be pushed to the 40+ gram mark without growing hydro style? also, do you give autos both flowering and growing nutes the whole time, or how do you condence say, a complete fox farms nute chart for autos? is topping ok to do with autos and when is the best time to do it? Thanks for responces!

I don't recommend topping autos. I usually grow my autos alongside "regulars" on 12/12.....Any of the lowryder strains are great IMHO...got some viscious looking diesel ryders going right now under 1000w hps...... Autos typically show sex at 20-25 days and begin flowering immediately.....some strains may be more accepting of nutes than others....due to the very short pot life, I'd go easy.....

what kind of dried weight do you guys look at when its all said and done (on average)? is it less than an ounce per plant or does it float between 28 and 50 grams?

lol i like using scales with any amount of weed i own. i like to level out my doses so i know how much im smoking. it helps me keep my toking in check so i dont do too much at any one time---leaving me without smoke on a day when ill need it. its funny, thats why i want to grow auto flowers in the first place.

You've only came close to an ounce using a 1000 watt HPS? What was your set up like? What strains did you choose for your crop?

I grew 5 short rider last year and got 4 and half oz dry with 2 150hps...but if you get a oz off a auto your doing good ..there meant to be short small and fast....

While were at it, I would go with Dinafem auto's also. It's a spanish company that doesn't ship to the U.S. but you can get their seed through sites like Attitude and a few others. It's not hard.
They seem to have been doing the longest, and the auto haze I got from them was great for what it was. Also very stable (but that might have just been luck), I can't find my fucking camera or else I'd show you how beautifully it's grown.

And, the problem of low thc content seems to have been solved, cause at dinafem their reporting thc contents above 20%, which for me is the last thing holding me back from buying them regularly.
idk, my .02

cool, cool! well thanks for the input. I suppose 5 oz from a crop of 6 is reasonable. They only need to last me until my big harvist. if a half pound can last me 4 months, then certainly 5 oz should last me thru 8-12 weeks of flowering. thanks guys!

You'll get much better yields if you use a 18/6 or 20/4 lighting schedule with your autos. 12/12 on autos is just about a waste of space and money.

I agree with this.

However, I would like more people to grow autos at 12/12 and journal it so we can put a nail in this question once and for all. ;)

nah, i would never waste my time with 12/12 on autos. ill keep trimming down these lemon hazes, white widows, blue fruit, and blue widow, until they are ready to hit the flowering cycle---AFTER my autos are done.

Yeah, that's the way to go. Good luck.
