A few light questions?

I have a couple questions regarding light for a small indoor set up. I plan on using a 400 watt hps for flowering stage. how many plants could that light handle? also what is the best type of light for the veg cycle? I am not wanting to spend a fortune but i want a good light. I have some cfl's but dont like them. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Metal Halide is best for vegitation. High Pressure Sodium is best for the flowering, they say. I run a Metal Halide, and I have had decent growth just in the last couple of days since I switched from my flourescent. 250w will cover approx. 5-12 square feet.

get a mh/hps conversion ballast setup from HTG supply and get like a 400w MH and 600w HPS

but thats just my thoughts. others will chime in with what works for them. really youre best option is to read the grow FAQ and learn as much as you can and make a decision for yourself.

I have 7 under mine in a 4' x 4' area. I would fit 6 better.

yea i used a 400 watt hps/mh conversion system from HTGsupply, i fit 6, 4 1/2 week vegged plants under there and everything ended up fine, nice solid nugs, i would say 6 the best number, but 7 is definietly feasable.
