a few questions about soils

I was planning on using miracle gro from start to finish but dont know which to use since there are different kinds like potting, water soluble etc etc? Or is there another good soil to use that i can get from walmart and how much would it cost? Also if i use miracle gro would i have to use nutes or fert.? and off topic but do they sell y splitters for light sockets at walmart?

Miracle Grow does contain nutes, but you gonna have to buy a fertilizer anyway, starting from 3rd week from popping !!
I'd say purchase MG Potting for start, then Water Soluble for transplant after a month or 35 days !

Plenty of people are successful with MG. It sounds like you're just starting so I'll share my experience. I'm on my second attempt.

My first ended after a week in MG soil.(not blaming MG) but the nutes definitely played a strong part.

My second is just over a week and my plants are noticeably bigger.(same seeds) I'm using black and gold and it's a much lower nute packed soil. So far, knock on wood, I'm super happy with the results. After my first ended out of nowhere I honestly about gave up. I was so confused on what happened and couldn't grab a solid answer from anyone.

I ended up going to a hydro store 2 hours away to pick up foxfarms ocean forest as a lot of people here recommend it. The dude there recommended b&g over it and I'm glad he did.(not to knock ffof)

I picked up y splitters from lowes, I never checked Walmart. Good luck

So i should use the potting mix for about a month and then transplant it to a gallon pot of the water soluble stuff

Haven't tried any miracle grow products myself. If you're looking for something relatively cheap, I have had good luck with super soil, can get a big bag at home depot for around 6 bucks.

I start my seedlings/clones in something like ocean forest, I think miracle grow has a seedling mix that might be good for this, then transplant to the super soil after they outgrow the solo cups.

Started 3 weeks ago with fox farm ocean forest soil + Nutes. Put pics up on forum to get some feedback (thinking I was doing something wrong because its my first time) suprisingly a lot of people said they looked really good and I was doing a good job. Just try it bro see how it goes. Trial and error is the best way to learn in my opinion, experience comes from success as well as failure. Hope this helps. Good luck! Let me know if you want to check out that forum where I got feedback.

If you start with MG it is not a wise idea, you are better off transplanting into MG or even FFoF 2-3 weeks into veg to prevent nute burn which can dramatically slow down growth.

Yea that makes perfect sense I transplanted into FFOF 2-3 weeks when it was a good size. Thats when growth really took off. Overall good advice ilyaas123

Mg and ffof are both hot soils that will burn your seedlings. . For some their plants get through it. . Others, like my inexperienced self, have sprouts die because of it.

Keep in mind that a potting mix is different than soil. Potting mix is peat moss, perlite, and maybe vermiculite.

Soil is mostly made up of silt, clay, and sand, with some organic material mixed in.

Growing in a potting mix is a lot like growing in hempy buckets.

I'm just sharing my limited knowledge but I have used mg seedling mix and black and gold so far... b&g has impressed me enough that I will never switch from it unless it's to make my own because in the end that's best!! You can get by with MG but I'd recommend getting a perlite to mix in "heavily/moderately".

MG AND FFOF can be used to grow. Bottom line.. but for a beginner starting their first sprouts I'd stay away from both. I do hear foxfarms light warrior with perlite mixed in is noob friendly..

The b&g I use is like .5 or .3 -0-0

I use FFOF mixed with soil less at 50-50 for seeds and clones, then when I repot I use a heavier
mix of FFOF like 2:1 veg, then 3:1 flower.
I have had a bad experience with MG, as I had a bad bag with parasites in it.

If you find FFOF is too hot it's because you're puttinh too young of seedlings in it.

Fir seedlings,FF Light Warrior, for well rooted seedling/clones FFOF.

You could always buy a bag of FFOF and FF Light warrior and cut it either 75/25 FFOF/FFLW or 50/50 FFOF/FFLW.
