A little peyote update...

So I started a bunch of L.W. seeds this past summer and now they are about 5 months old. I've cut back on the water, but gave them some earlier today. So far, they seem to be doing well by the windowsill where I'll keep them for the entire winter/spring. What do you guys think?

how long does it take before you can harvest mature buttons?

yeah, like rory said / it takes years, but i'm in my late 30's so I still have time. Waiting so damn long will make it that much of a special experience. I have 20, and i understand it takes 5 (orange-sized) peyotes to put one person "in god's backyard'' - per catofcuriosity He knows his cacti so I tend to believe him. Good thing there will be '' pups'' along the way that i can plant as well

thanks ! - i will have to thin them eventually, but they grow well close together, and growing so slowly... i can probably wait a couple more years.

id do it sooner than later in an effort to keep roots from tangling among each other...

True, I may transplant as early as next summer, but then I keep hearing how peyote likes to grow close together. Not really sure, maybe someone will answer this question in the meantime

id wait till nickle sized..seems like it would be large enough to withstand the slight shock..
i wonder the size of the root structure currently..and ive also wondered about the clustered growing conditions..not sure if they "like" it so much as the way they reproduce and cant get too far from each other..

Yeah man, if you can really optimize the growing conditions you might chop a whole week off your harvest time.

I'll be doing some more research along the way 4-sho / Ideally, i'd like to graft them, and I may take a closer look @ that option sometime. A friend said that periskopsis spathulata(sp?) is good to use as stock. I really don't want to lose any 'yotes while attempting to graft them. On second thought, I consider myself quasi-competent, so that would probably not happen. Still, I have reservations about "fixing what isn't broken" . Anyway, glad to see everyone here ! !

yeah, idk where catofcuriosity is these days... canndo and c.o.c. seem to be the cactus-veterans here. Rory420 knows his stuff too. As ya'll can see though, my little buttons are still alive and thriving !
