Oh yeah...

Genetics...

Not sure what type of climate you live in, but humidity and rain are both issues for me. Even inside.

Indoors I like my ladies to be short and fat.

Outdoors I love em tall and... well... uh... yeah... fat.

I am on the hunt for one or more suitable for my indoor requirements, and one or more for outdoors.

My rain, humidity, and frost as early as early-mid October make me desperate for a couple quick finishers that are reputably mold resistant. I'm thinking Landraces...Afghan, Brazilian, Pakistan, Columbian... Or maybe The Church or Holland's Hope?

The Church is a great plant to work with for avoiding bud rot. Nice buds, but not overly dense. I've had it in my garden for years.

I have a couple 4x4 flood tables laying around that I've considered flowering in, but I think they're too shallow. I'd be curious to see how that works out for you though. I could be wrong.

my keyboard is fubar-

so that explains alot. anyway.

regardless of what the newbs think, this site was started as an irc channel for medical growers to share the breakthroughs they were having regarding cannabis cultivation. it's how i arrived here(i have another personna, that i won't name, about two years older than this one). initially, we had some very serious, intelligent conversations concerning horticulture. i have too believe many members were serious students at the least, and engineers and scientists quite likely. many of those folks were insulted so badly at one point, they prolly won't be back.

it has been a minute since anything of any value has developed, and the recent discoveries ive made concerning organics have been eye opening, and deserve more investigation. after seeing the level of knowledge youve garnered on the subject, rrog, its obvious there's more than meets the eye. im gonna work on the other thread now.

thanks man.

I believe I have my recipe figured out now. I'm doing way more recycling, hunting, gathering, digging, and fucking lugging now, so my vacation may get pushed back a bit. Oh well... It's not the first sacrifice I've made for this super awesome thing that I do with my life, and it won't be the last.

I've totally known the direction I needed to take for a few years now. Apparently I needed a kick in the ass to move faster.

Keep on sharing that wealth of information.

One more...

Are the red lava rocks from Lowes alright, or are there dyes or other toxins that could screw me?
I use exactly these rocks. Red lava from Lowes. I did like Rrog says - just rinsed with some water and they're good to go.

One thing I had to do tho with the rock from Lowes was, I had to separate the large chunks from the smaller ones. Because the bag I got was full of very large chunks. I literally just sat down and picked out every rock 1 by 1 and decided if it was too big. Anything over 1" 1/2 - 2" ish, I tossed. In hindsight, I should have just taken a hammer and busted the bag up a bit and used it all. My brother in law has a flower bed he has decorated with lava rock, so I just threw the large chunks in it and told em Merry Christmas. (hah)

In the future I plan on picking this up - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004MX921O/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A26AZPQYQ8NFPS

It's pretty expensive because of the shipping, but I'm curious and I want to try it out. The seller has posted the rock they ship are mostly 1/4" to 1/2" inch and that sounds about perfect to me. In conjunction with pumice you get large size lava rock and small pellet size pumice. I think it balances out real nice.

I haven't seen many people using it, but I really like expanded shale. I pick up a 65 lb bag for $22 locally. It's consistency, water, and oxygen retention are all on point, and it has a high silica content. What's not to dig about that? I plan on supplementing that with just a few bags of the lava rocks. That Hawaiian lava seems like some great stuff, but I doubt I can find it locally.

On a separate note...

I was digging in my compost pile today, and stumbled upon a layer of what reminds me of some super awesome rock dust. It's very soft, sandy, and basically odorless. The color is a slightly metallic khaki. Any ideas what this could be?
