A question about trifoliate plants

Hey all,
I'm on a run of 12/12 from seed, and one of the plants has just switched from 2 leaves per node to 3. I'm aware that this is a fairly common mutation, but while researching it I read that its more common for Durban Poison to show this mutation.
Is that true?
Or is it stoner "science"?
The father of these seeds was a sativa with fan leaves bigger than dinner plates. I'm talking individual leaflets a foot long and maybe half an inch wide, but the guy growing it had no idea what it was. He didn't even know how to tell male from female, or that he couldn't get bud from a male plant.

I'll post a pic or two later if you want, but It's really just a normal plant otherwise.

Yeah, that came up as I was researching it. As did the possibility of it being just this one node. The leaves of the plants from this set of seeds were all curled up like ram's horns when they popped up from the soil. The first set of true leaves grew that way too, on all of them. Two of them mostly straightened out, the third is still all confuckulated. I'm not really worried, I'm not using this set for breeding, although if I get a male with the trait as well as a female in the next run I might breed 'em, just to see what happens.

Okay, this just got a little more interesting. Above the node with 3 leaves there is a node with 2. So I figured it was just a one off. But now the node above that is forming with 3 again. I'm kinda hoping this keeps happening. I'll post pictures of the plant doing this and her brother and the truly fucked up one which isn't showing any gender yet. Only reason I haven't gotten rid of it is I like seeing slow-motion trainwrecks in progress. Plus I have the space, so no loss.

On a sidenote the LP here called HEXO grows a Northern Lights x Blueberry strain called Lagoon. It may be a factor in how soon the photos are posted.

I had a trifolate Matanuska TF in a grow last winter. It showed that characteristic right away. Turned out to be a male...so I didn't grow it out.

Will follow along. I have never seen a plant flower with trifoliate bud structure, maybe this will be the first time.

Funny it's container says (Crunchy), that should be it's nickname. It's sorta crunchy.

This one's got pistils showing. 12/12 from seed is a weird experience. They just seem to go from cotyledons to flower in a day or two.

I like using these peanut butter tubs for the first little while, when the roots look ready I can up pot at just the right time. It's also why I usually disagree with people who say light does bad shit to roots. I once had to keep a plant in one of those till she was through a month of veg, and two weeks into flower. Roots were white the whole way through until I could up pot, and she finished stunted, but healthy.

The two of elephant girl are a little older but the next pic should give you a good idea of the relative sizes, and there's also a pic of one of the plants that I'm sure is a cross of a mother which was itself a cross of an auto and a photo. One of those quick/early strains.

Guess it's good that I never tried to journal a grow. 2 seedling pics, a pic at the beginning of flower then a shot of harvested bud, like this!

As you can see, she kept the tri bud structure. When I manicure the top cola, I'll try to take some pics, if she kept it long enough.
