A Quick Question

Ok so I started an auto around two weeks ago and due to space issues I started it in a 0.5galon pot.She wasnt really doing too good but has now taken off big-time.
Am I better to transplant her now or wait until she starts showing signs of being root-bound?It dosent seem right to potentialy shock her but at the same time I wouldnt want her getting real nice and big then becoming sick/root bound. My instinct tells me I should transplant her asap.

Ps.Ive learned my lesson, future autos will be started in their full size pots!

Transplant right away, give her room to flourish.
Hiya snoyl, I agree with 420God, Though I think you doing Ok so far, don't Panic or Stress M8 she looking good IMHO :-D and I believe some Auto Growers still start Ladies in smaller Pot than the one they going to finish in(if you plant into a BIG pot straight out I think it slows growth above ground as lady fills out the space underground..if you get me) by-the-by some peeps just jump straight to BIG pots and know that Lady will just take little longer to find her feet, then shoot up like a Rocket...

Everyone is different...and does it different..

Peace

EDIT: Didn't think my Post was going to post??? God Damn Captcha!!!!

Starting in full size 3gal/10liter pots can open you up to fungal infection(damping off) far better to consolidate that rootball for the first 2 weeks, as you have done, then transplant(potup) to 3gal. with a 30-50% perlite mix as an aid to drainage avoid compaction and dilute those hot soils
You may wanna top or fim her by week 2 week to squeeze another 1/2 Oz outta her,

best to locate clone to there own space and mist 2x times a day to avoid droop

Hey Snoyl, I know there are a lot of opinions about pot size and topping, I can only tell you about my experiences. I started 3 in solo cups not fully understanding how the auto works diff than reg photos. Here's what I noticed, I transplanted 1 a week earlier than the other 2 and although it wasn't root bound it also didn't get stunted and grew to a lil more than twice the size of the others, those other 2 were root bound when I trans them and they never got over 20". I trans into 3gal pots but it didn't matter. I have spoken with so many growers who say the same thing, from their experiences always start autos in the pot you intend to flower in. As for topping, I only recommend that if you intend on having much smaller plants, like a stealth grow, you can also do that by having it in a smaller pot too. Just my opinion and observations. Good luck with your grow.

Thats thrown a spanner right in the works-I thought the best thing to do with autos was to just leave them be topping or fimming-wise?

One other question. When I first started I was going to grow dwc but it never came off, although I now know where I went wrong. So anyway, when I went to start this soil grow I read about people using a coco and soil mix and thought they were meaning the clay pelets you use in hydro, hydroton I think its called, when they were saying coco,so all my plants are growing in basicly a 50-50 clay pelet/soil mix.The thing is,touch wood, theyre all doing fine,so will I be ok just continuing to grow using this mix?
Ok one last question-are 2.5 galon/12l buckets big enough to grow decent sized plants in?I read you can use those large re-usable shopping bags you get, would one of them be better or will a bucket be big enough?

I've been growing cannabis for over 40 years, although many started growing similar to tomatoes, and the rules are similar too, for photos and autos ..budget 1 gallon per month soil, that the plants are with you, 2 months to 2 gallons, but I like to be nice and add another 1/2 gallon and not many guys completely fill the pot but leave it 2-3 inches short or you get wet feet come watering time, so in actual fact 2+3/4 gallons of soil mix to a 3 gallon pot, I prefer 40% perlite added to the pot to aid in drainage and reduce any chance of nute burn, avoid bags as they cause too much disturbance to the root zone, that is a form of stress, avoid all forms of stress, these plants have one desire to grow and fuck before winter sets in, thats their gene code, don't hinder that!!
I'm very happy to germ in a 4 inch pot(1/2 pint) then pot up to a 3 gallon pot in about 2 weeks or when I see the roots starting to come through the bottom holes, I pot up in the evening so by morning the plant is happy and ready to go, in the morning sun, it's had 8 hours overnight to get used to the 3 gallon pot ...no big deal.
I seen a few experienced DWC, photo growers get very confused trying to grow autos via dwc, is a lot of work, best to grow via potting mix as the plants are only with you for 2-3 months tops via up to 6 months or longer with photos

good luck
