Hi RIU!
About to take first steps with leds. Would like some assurance that everything is on point. Have been looking from RIU,Growmau5 videos to gather some knowledge to build my first very own light.

I'm from Europe so it's hard to find good place with predrilled heatsinks, KingBrite name got tossed around on the forums so I hope it's a reputable place to get the parts. I haven't placed the order or contacted them yet, wanted some veteran input first.

So I'm planning to build 5 CREE cxb3590 3500k running at 50W 1400ma.

Parts and links

Thermal tape

What do You think? Am I missing something or have I got something wrong?

Much thanks
DS

Looks right to me. You really dont need the thermal tape, just alittle thermal compound under each one is fine.
Its going to be a high voltage setup so make sure everything wired and grounded properly. 179v at 1.5a will light you up.
Good Luck

Hey, good spot Boatguy. If you're gonna use holders, just use some good-quality thermal paste. Arctic Silver, etc.

I found out thru trial and error that COB holders don't push down as vigorously as CPU heatsinks do. CPU heatsinks use springs to create downward force. They tend to squish the paste into the voids as the paste heats up the first few times. COB holders don't push downward very much at all. Because of that, it's important to spread the paste thinly and evenly.

I just received my order from kingbriteled. Received in 3 days (eu), awesome.

Btw I got some thermal adhesive, not paste, to attach cobs to heatsinks. I don't have t paste anymore at home. Do you think it will be a problem if I sue that blue adhesive?

i have used king brite three times.no problems except if you dont ask for the screws and wire when you order you wont get them!
i made 4 cob lights with the 185h1400 drivers.i used that exact dimmer on the last 8 lights i built.
i really like the lens instead of the reflectors.i like the protection they offer.
these lights are easy to build.aluminium angle for the frame .
tried uploading a pic to show my lights but not working.
i used thermal paste on my first 5 lights and the thermal tape on the last 8.the tape is easier and less messy.no problems with either yet and some lights are now a year and a half old

AH crazy, as if they don't ship international.. Maybe its the bulk that's stopping them, you would think the frame could be sent in its parts and assembled later, it would only be a few screws and a couple of nuts and bolts.
Hope you see great results with your purchase.
Yeah we are crying out for a UK vendor. Even just a dude selling pin heat sinks on ebay would be good. Or a proper heat sink profile like heatsinkusa do.

Take it easy.

i ordered my COB LEDs from cutter.com.au. I was planning to order from Kingbrite but they were on vacation for Chinese New year. Anyway, when kingbrite came back from vacation the total pricing he quoted me for every thing was more expensive than what I paid for my COB LEDs from Cutter. The shipping is what drove the total so high. Glad i went with CUtter. Got my drivers from arrow electronics for 50 dollars.

I think I've seen some light engines with 1212(or 1812)on eBay. The seller was from Germany I guess...
