Advice for colder garage

Use a 600W HPS in the tent. Have an extraction fan ($40) for the tent only -not hooked up to the light ducting, plugged into a thermostatically controlled outlet ($30). Then the exhaust fan will only come on when the heat in the tent hits the highest temp you set it for (e.g. 78*F) and blow the excess heat into the cold garage. Use a small 900W ceramic heater ($15) on a timer to only come on when the lights are off and you need heat. Set the thermostat on the space heater to the desired night time temp and it will only kick on when needed. All together you can get heat and more light into your tent for very cheap and it will cover all your bases without ever exceeding your amperage limits on your breaker. I believe thats about the most effective and inexpensive way to deal with your issue.

If im not mistaken THIS is the exact LED i am using currently.

If possible id like to be able to find a way to use this LED (literally brand new) and possibly my extra hoods/ballasts if needed. Trying to find a work around way going this route.

Wonderful response here. Thank you so much for the info! Would you suggest anything to try and get this LED quantum board I have into play as well? Originally bought it due to thinking I would be much more limited in my amps. Now I have a brand new light that seems to not be the one I need to use due to temp problems haha. Shucks!

That "brand new light" is useful, just maybe not right now lol. Save it for when its hot out and you need a cool running light to save some power and shave down AC costs. You could use both lights in my suggested cold weather scenario, but you would still be faced with figuring out how many amps you have available on your breakers and what breaker will power what etc. The addition of light and heat from the led fixture would certainly be welcomed in your 5x5 come those cold winter nights you mentioned.

Have the veg. tent set 24 hrs with hot lights to keep the flower tent warm. Blow the hot air through the flower tent. Your gonna need 2 tents anyway unless you run autos. Garages are tuff they get extremely hot and cold. Space heaters

One solution is have two tents on a flip so one is on when the other is off. Each with HID lighting. Use one tents heat to warm the one that has the lights off.

also be aware of the propane heater creating poisonous carbon monoxide gas which can be fatal.

make sure there is adequate ventilation for the exhaust and make sure you have working carbon monoxide detectors in the house.

If that happens you have a bad heater. A clean blue flame indicates things are ok, you see yellow then it's making carbon monoxide. Propane space heaters are common and safe however it's always wise to have a carbon monoxide alarm in your home if you have a gas or propane furnace, range or hot water heater.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I have recently made some small changes within the garage itself to try and warm it up just a little. Sealing up windows/doors a bit better. Looking into weather proofing the garage door as well as its a little loose and i wont plan on using it!

Picking up some insulation mats tomorrow to raise the tent off the ground. The few layers of tarp I have under it is doing absolutely nothing i think haha. Temps are staying in the mid to low 60s currently without much changes. Going to clean off my old hood tonight as well and get a new HPS bulb to fit that and hang that sucker...should create more heat to push out into the garage. Looking into the veg tent as well to keep constant warmth in there.



Some updates of everything. Going to be transplanting the biggest one tomorrow once I receive my azos/mykos! The two cuts in the blue cup are currently in water trying to water root. Going to get one its own cup right now. Been a few days with nothing yet so far so fingers crossed. Any ideas with these or just give them more time?

7 - 14 days and you should see roots generally.

Same dang problem.. 30’s at night all of a sudden... and I got some damn sativas going.. I can see the purpling coming... my 315 is doing fine in the day... but I’m flowering them now... wish I could have at least switched my grow time to nights.. dang it... I have my space heater for tonight...but hell it burns more than my light.. and last year I did see an increase in bills... I will be using it to warm my garage(315) she’s perfect for that...in this garage Idk which is worst winter or summer...

Thats meant mostly for the outside of a structure (underneath siding/etc.). You'd probably be more interested just using some R13 insulation rolls inside if the walls arent finished or drywalled. Your garage will be much better at holding in any heat that you provide.

What if walls are already finished?

Working with finished walls! What is the R13 insulation? will look into it now.

How long generally does it take for clones in a red cup to root and be ready for transplant? I've read to shoot for 3-4 nodes. Sound right?

Ok..so, I read that I can do something called injecting foam insulation since my walls are finished. Have you ever heard of anyone getting this done? Oh and yeah that sounds bout right for the clones

If your tent is 5x5 and if the garage has at least 250+Sq feet? you can get away with recycling your exhuast into the garage to help with heat lose. If the garage is insulated get a heater and extention cord so your not wasting power, the heater will run less. Get a oil filled or a heater with a thermostat.

Ended up turning half of a closet into a little veg area! Do ya'll think I should invest in some panda film instead of just a tarp under them or is that sufficient for veg?








Some plants have recovered quite well from not looking as hot. Going to repot the biggest tomorrow im thinking as it is starting to become a little dryer. Going into a 1/3 gallon im thinking before the final 5gallon finishing pot.

Thoughts?

panda film would likely be less durable than the tarp for use on the floor.

looks like some plants are in coco. don't let coco dry out like you do soil. let it dry like half way, it needs to dry some but not all the way so the pot is light like soil.

Might wanna replace the cardboard box with one of the plastic totes thats meant to slide under a bed.
