Advice needed, 4x4x6 grow cabinet in corner of basement with CFL's.

Hello all, upgraded from previous grows that were in bedroom closet. Built a 4x4x6 cabinet. Only plan on one or two plants, keeping them small no bigger than 3 to 4 feet with LST, etc... Using multiple CFL's. Heat is not going to be a problem in the box. My question is do I have to pull in fresh outside air or can I pull in "fresh air" from the basement?

My basement is not damp and I have glass block windows throughout. Within the glass block windows there is a small 2inx5in window that opens but only a few inches, very small opening for safety of course. I could open these when the weather warms up for "fresh" air, currently too cold outside.
I also have central air which we use when it gets really warm in July, Aug.
In previous closet grows, I would just open the door and use a box fan for ventilation into the closet, then close door at lights out. Smell was not an issue then, we were out in the middle of nowhere. Now I am in the burbs with houses spaced at 60 feet.

This time around I would like to contain smell to within the cab. I plan to use DIY carbon filter with 4inch can fan for outflow, with ducting to my dryer vent. If I cut a passive air intake into cab, will smell leak out through this passive air intake even when can-fan is running?

I also have a one-gallon ONA bucket to put outside the cab. My biggest concern is smell control. Thanks for any advice.

Air from basement should be fine... As far as smell Carbon works great, after the can having a mask is helpful too. A mock filter stuffed with dryer sheets can drown out some of the most potent smells, and going out a dryer vent the new smell makes sense. I cant imagine two plants causing too much of an issue

maybe one or two plants in a scrog could work for you ? just a suggestion tho, if I grew with only CFLs I would for sure make a scrog or atlest LST em a lot, as CFLs need to be keep close (2-6 inch) to provide decent light ..

about the air, it would of course be N01 to pull in fresh air/co2 from the out side, tho that would probably give you other problems with cold air in the winter time ? and also need some kind of filter/net to keep bugs out aso.

but a pice of ducting could probably solve it for you, I use one to "collect" fresh air, as I grow in a spare bed room, I just vent the hot/old air out to that room (through a carbon filter of course) but I cant keep a window open or anything in there, so I just run a pice of 6" alu ducting from my passive intake to the hall out side where I can keep a small window open, can easily be removed in 2 sec. if I get visitors etc.

about smell, even a few small plants in a basement can make a hole house smell, so some kind of carbon filter would be advisable, maybe make a DIY one out of them replacement filters for your cooking ventilation (sorry dunno the English word) have em in my "Walmart" and cost about 10$ full of active carbon ..

So, for this size cabinet (4x4x6), I should be able to get away with one of the smaller carbon filters and a 4 inch can-fan? I am not pulling out heat since using cfl's, so just smell control is my purpose for can-fan and carbon filter. Filter and fan will be up top of the cab on opposite side of passive intake.

As far as a passive intake, I will cut out a 4 to 6 inch round or rectangle hole in bottom of cab on opposite corner of carbon filter exhaust, put ducting to it with dark filter and open up small windows in basement to bring in fresh air, they are screened so bugs and insects shouldn't be a problem. Hopefully the 4 inch fan is enough to create negative pressure in cabinet, allowing all carbon scrubbed air to exhaust into ducting and ultimately out of the dryer vent to outside.
