AeroGarden FIRST grow (Re-do lol)

Ok guys i started My new Grow August 2nd... I now have most of the proper items needed to grow.

Airstone stick n a circular airstone.
AquaPump 2x
Mylar I have but it is not set yet (Question adding the Mylar 2 my walls will increase the temp?. I know it will reflect the light giving me a bigger yield but im concerned about the temp getting to high.

Also I need 2 know how to rid the smell or mask it when that time comes.. Im hearing a lot about Carbon filters attached to fans? I cannot put a hole in my wall or have any vent system so i need some real help on this one fellas.

When should i start giving the plants The recipe for Success Kit

These pics are From Fri aug 5th

ph.jpg mary.jpg

Jus wondering if my eyes are bad or not lol. But that Ph level says 6.0 correct? Should i Check Ph 2x per day morning night perhaps?

Also I have a small black Honeywell fan i hear im not suppose to aim the fan directly at the plants so than which way up?

How long does it take 2 find out if its male or female. N besides the obvious balls for male plants wat other signs can i look for?

Is this bagseed? If so, the fact is you have no way of anticipating the smell.
Considering your limitations regarding controlling the order, I'd say abandon your current grow and restart with a Known "Faint Smelling" strain such as Northern lights (#5 I think it is).
Once you know what you are dealing with you can only then take the necessary steps. Get yourself Some ONA Pro Gell (x2) and one Freebreeze True Air carbon filters (about $25).

good luck!

I have also used the recipe for success kit, although not in aero, it was in a drip irrigation. just be careful when you're mixing, when I mixed the 1/2 strength formula, the PPM was much higher than the instructions indicated, and I was using distilled water, so the PPM of the water was very low (around 3) before adding nutes. good luck! honestly, if you can afford it, spend some money on a good pH meter, it is worth it (same for the PPM tester)

HEEEELLLLLPPP, i have the aerogarden and am waiting on my pods and stuff to get here. Thing is that i already germinated my seeds and they cracked out of the shells already and i am still two days out from getting my pods and domes. What can i do, one of the roots is already an inch long. PLEASE help

PPM is a reading of dissolved solids in the solution, stands for Parts Per Million. It's a pretty important factor, as if you have to high of a PPM, it will burn the plants, and if it's too low, it will starve them. You don't need to worry about using nutes until your plants are at least 6" tall (depending on who you ask, but this is what I do). a good PPM tester can be found online for around $40-60. definitely get one.

hey Luv, not sure if this will work, but you want to keep the roots in a dark place, I think best bet would be to leave them in the paper towel (if that's how you germinated them) and leave them somewhere dark and warm for now. Not sure if this will work for 2 days, but it's worth a shot. any chance you can get some rockwool cubes in the time being? if so, you could transplant them into that, but then I don't know how you could get them out and transplant them.

LuvThePlant:

The thing is with the AeroGarden Sponges, you cannot place a 3/4 - 1" long TapRoots in with the actual seed pod. What will happen is that the moisture in the AG will continue to encourage growth; however in your case, the Taproot will not drill down into the Sponge. rather, you will end up with a LONG Stem which "May" Eventually drill down. The plant will suffer though.

Patience friends... Be sure to remember to have patience when you cut the plant down.

Your best chance is to do the following. Cut the sponge in half, disregard the lower portion. Now Take a Chopstick or similar poker and borough through the Sponge from the Top -> down the middle.. Thus creating a path for the Taproot to reside in.

Now, "Slit" the sponge down one side so that you can open it up (via a slit from the top to the bottom). Gently place the SeedPod with Taproot into the sponge. Ensure that the Seedpod is situated in the sponge about 1/2cm below the top. (Just so you can barely see it from above)

that's your best Chance... It's worked for me in the past, but those plants that I Germed too early and dropped in with a 1" or longer tap root didn't do too well.

Good luck!

how do i bring my ppm down ? do I just add more water? my ppm is 15.0 without nutes and 950 almost a 1000! when nutes are added and that was at a low dose

How do i even go about checking my Ppm? I am on 18/6 light cycle now n on Monday Aug 16th 2010 my plants will b two weeks old should i leave it like this or switch to 16/8 now?

Here are some pics i took the other day a week n a few days securedownload.jpg m2.jpg m.jpg

So I have come to learn a lot since my last reply on here.
When I started my plants I started by going by the 3part gh general instructions and that was a big no no from the start, my plants were barely a few weeks old and they were pumped with 1800 ppm when givin the instructed amount, the instructions are not clear enough for a stoner like me i suppose.
You gotta buy a ppm meter I got a water proof set of meters both ph amd the ppm meter. for 130 altogether on amazon. I have learned start plants at very low level ppms like 50 ppm when they are clones, seeds go water only, and by week 2 from clone if they are lookin strong you can go to about 150 to 300 ppm depending on durability of strain. by week 3, I go to 500 ppm, week 4 700, week 5 900ppm, week 6 1100, week 7 1300.
In my system I have witnessed my plants taking up to 1800 ppm!!!!!! and they were young, the OGKUSH held up great as well as my white widows. but my sourd and purp kush did not do so well. Using the same strain is very good option with aero systems or any system that shares the same nutrient solution, by doing this you can monitor your plants very easily

HAPPY GROWING
