Plugsmustard: I'm not sure about your question, but inside you should have a pump sock. That sponge filter won't keep out anything much smaller than boulders. You can get a pump sock from your local hydro store from ten to fifteen dollars or you can carefully stretch and wrap your pump and tower in a short nylon sock that women wear with flat shoes, and they're only about $2 a pair at Walmart. That was a tip I got from Aerogarden's customer service about four years ago and it's golden. Root's had already killed my pump before that.

If you get two plants going you're going to have a lot of roots in your reservoir and it'll be a pain in the ass to take it apart and clean. And that's something you'll have to do every week. You can remove the two spars in the reservoir and it will make it a lot easier to disassemble. The spars are only used by A/G to keep the reservoir's shape during the manufacturing process and shipping. That hint was also from A/G's customer service and it too is golden. You'll want to start an 800 number relationship with them. They'll be very helpful as long as they don't know what you're growing. If they ask, you're growing 'culinary herbs.'

As far as nutrients are concerned, if you have a set of measuring spoons and a pH test kit or a meter, I strongly recommend you don't use A/G's nutes for growing M/J. Go to your local hydro store or go online and try: Technaflora's, "Recipe for Success," sample it. It's a bout $30 and in an A/G it will last you for a long time. Follow the directions to the letter, dump your nutes weekly, scrub your reservoir and you should be a happy camper. HSA

wow, thanks a lot. i am definitely going to all of that. but i have run into a different problem. the pump does not work because the magnet is eroded on the inside, therefore the fan doesn't spin.

so my main question is now, "Is that an air pump or a water pump"

since the pump is broken i am confused at how it works. whether it be air or water being pumped. also i cannot find a video

i looked at the website and to ship a new pump, the shipping costs more than the pump itself.

thanks again for the info.

Plugsmustard: By virtue of the nutes pump in the reservoir, the A/G is an active hydroponic system. 'It aeriates the nutrient mix when it falls from the distribution nozzles on the bottom of your planting deck to the pods in the cages. 'Kind of a bullshit way of calling it an Aero' anything. The water pump is only a water pump. It needs an aquarium air pump, air stone and a one way check valve in the line; (Walmart $7).

You can get a new pump from A/G's web site and an 800 number to make it a free call to customer service. they're nice folks too. Just don't tell them what you're growing. If the pump is frozen it might be worn out or because the last user/owner didn't do a proper 'shut down for storage.' As my old auto shop teacher used to say, "RTFB." That's all in the accompanying manuals.

Yeah, pumps are $10. Always keep a spare on hand, along with filters and spare lamps. They've got you by the balls if you only need one thing that's why I usually make one or two bulk orders a year for: lamps, pumps, grow pods, labels and humidity domes. (I don[t use their nutes). The bottom line stings but you save a lot on shipping and around Christmas they usually offer free shipping if your order is over $50. Just don't hold your breath because their delivery is slow, very slow. I hope this helps. HSA
