Aerogarden Pro Germination Goes WRONG!

Very disappointed, or actually I'm just REALLY confused. Can someone please lend a helping hand here? I'm not new to growing, but I do have a question about seed germinated in the Aerogarden Pro.

Red Diesel fem seeds from tude.... started germinating this past monday (5 days) and is on tomato setting with extra air pump with 4" airstone pumpin out some good bubbles. Humidity and Temps are great. PH great.

Taproot came out in less than 24 hours and is now 2.7 inches in length (already touching water in aerogarden tub). Root is healthy looking, but there is still no sign of plant. In fact, parted sponge media and can see that seed hasn't even cracked on top to expose any plant life.

Isn't this very odd? 5 days already? Should I be worried and what would the experienced growers think of this?

Please help!

Thanks,

Nute :peace:

Oh well.... I think I'll wait it out for a total of ten days and if no sprout, she goes in the toilet - may do better in the sewer!

Heres my 2 cents,

I havent owned a aerogarden pro but I have read journals of them and they work.

What I noticed in your post is you said you had it on tomato. I assume you are feeding.
If thats the case maybe your problem is the fact that seeds have enough nutes in them
to last the first couple weeks of growth by themselves.

I wonder if it is possible you have stunted the upper growth with nutes.
Most experienced growers use clean R/O or distilled ph5.7 water for the first week or two.
Then add nutes after the first couple sets of leaves.

I would put in fresh water and make sure there was nothing obstructing the seedling from popping out. Maybe move closer to the light to warm the top of medium.

Good luck

I apologize - when I said I had on tomato setting, it's just a light cycle/drip setting for optimal tomato growth: 18/6 lighting. The lights on the AG are as low as I can get them, and I have definitely not added any nutes yet. I was warned not to add them for at least 12-14 days after sprouting occurs.

I lifted the grow cup again today and the root is thinning out at the end in the water and is starting to turn brown and curling. The upper part of the root is wide, whitish/yellow and healthy looking.

I've made sure to use ph balanced water and the ph is at 5.9 at this time.

I would guess the lower portion is dying because of lack of oxygen. I don't think
that would kill a seedling but it may slow it down. Is there air stones in there?

Wow, sounds like you got the right set-up.
5 days though.

I dont know. No upwards growth at all.

Well ya got roots. You should have a plant.
I guess all you can do is give it a few more days.

Well, it can germinate the hell out of herbs and tomato plant seeds! I've seen a lot of mention of successful germination of mj seeds in the AG. I don't know - maybe this was a bad idea... I've just seen SOOO many successful grows in it - looked promising! Might just put it up for auction and move to traditional methods that just work!

I'm sure you could do something with it but as a newcomer like me you might want to get some practice under your belt I do the traditional method as you said...soil works fine for me
