Yea I tried a couple methods today with no luck.

I might try the small chain link
light hangers? Not sure what those are gonna have to go google it now.

Thanks for the advice

Teknique... thank you so much for doing all this and letting us follow your progress...

i was wondering if another suggestion might work... for example:

after vegetative stage, remove the fluroescent lights and suspend some HPS over the plants...

Is the hood removable to accomplish this?

The hood is removable per se lol

But I dont know if the water pumps would still function then

But it is very possible they still would

just havent tried it out

I think the best way to do this next time or the 3rd time is with seeds or clones and putting only 3 pods in (the pod holes in the outer back and the front center. and then start flowering about 2 weeks after seed sprouts not sure for a clone probobly a week or two) I'm talking to someone else who just joined this site asking me the same things you two should get together.

But yea

Tek,
You can find the book Home Depot 1-2-3 home improvements and they give you detail for detail on how to splice your wires. Lowes also has a book similar in their store.

Thanks for the advice buddy but your a little late

I have already successfully spliced the wires

It was very easy

Thanks again

unplug the cord! cut it some where. peal back some insulation and put another peice of wire between each seperate wire. I would use wire nuts and electric tape to make sure u have all the wires seperated and spliced. plug it in, turn it on and see if it works

Yup I did it just like that

The only thing you forgot to mention was to make sure that the wire guage is the same (That both pieces of wire are the same size)

chop (nearly in half) the plant and the wait 3 days and flower..

EVEN if you raise the light, the lower branches are not going to produce any buds.. you just don't have enough light.. (Normally you do not want to reduce a plants size (mass) by more than 33% in one pruning period...

(continued)....from the pictures, it appears that you can leave 6 nodes and then cut the top 2-4 nodes off.. make a clone or 2 or 3...

cheers

I was actually thinking of that today when I was walking through Lowes looking for an extension cord that would match, but none were found.....

If you could explain to me a quick and easy way to splice the wire I would love to hear it please and thank you :)

Here you go, on the aerogarden cut off the playstation looking part, then find a playstation and do the same to the unneeded end. Splice the cut ends together (positive to positive, negative to negative) Wrap some black electrical tape around the splice and plug in.

Is this a PS2 or PS1 plug design ? I guess i'll find out, my unit should show up today!

It's a figure 8 plug. Used primarily in the past for Portable radio's, PS2...etc....etc..

They cost about $6.00 I suggest that you have a simple extension cord to plug it into. Makes it easier to work with.

Well I have just run into an unforseen problem with my little Aerogarden...

I thought that I had this problem solved but was mistaken....

You see the lighting hood only can be raised a certain amount of levels (about 5-6 different heights each about 2-3 inches higher than the previous level).

Well I was going to suspend it with some strings once it reached its maximum level and then raise the strings when neccessary...

Well there is an electrical cord that spans from the lighting hood to the base of the machine and this cord is only 1 1/2 - 2 feet making it impossible for it to be raised higher than this...

I could try to find an extension cord from radio shack maybe but they might not make the style of cord that its is (it's one end is hard wired into the base and the other end has two small round prongs like that of the playstation AC cord....

I was going to start flowering in a day or two maybe sooner but when the plants grow they are not going to have much verticle room....

Could I chop of part of the top of the plant? Probobly not a good idea....
I might just have to see what happens, might have to scrap it halfway into flowering if the plants are touching the lights....

Next time I do this Flowering is going to come much sooner than a month into it. More like a week or 2....

Well this is all a little bit disapointing but I guess that is what happens when you try somthing new. I have learned a lot from this 1st major grow of mine, and can't wait to try it again....

Well thanks for listening any thoughts or suggestions would be loved....

New pics coming in a few mins....

Later

Depending on how handy you are with a hot ice pick, an electric drill and a set of miniature files, if you have an upgrade kit with the taller more adjustable arm/light stand, you can modify it to get you 1 1/2 inch adjustment increments instead of three inches. If you're growing the same strain/variety you can also prune them to the same height while they're in the vegetative stage. Like your kids, you want to train your plants like children while they're small, vegetative stage. You can also bend them to the same height with that green wire you can get from a flower shop.

Teknique: You answered a lot of your own questions so I'd like to take it from there. I assume that you have the older version with the two round CFL's and the short arm/light stand that come stock. You can disconnect it and go to the ninety-nine cents store or Radio Shack and get a figure eight cord, disconnect the hood, suspend it some how and plug it directly into a remote timer at the wall. Older style A/G's don't usually lend themselves well to flowering without modifications because of the size of the plants, the shorter arm/light stand and the 12/12 light schedule necessary. After all they were designed to grow cooking herbs in doors all year long.

Of course taking it apart like that defeats the purpose of having a compact system like the A/G. I'm sure you'll figure something out but for the next grow you might want to seriously consider purchasing 'an upgrade kit.' Mine came with a 24 inch arm/light stand so you don't usually have the height problem you're experiencing. It also has a hood with three flat high intensity CFL's that will light your plants all the way down to the planting deck. I get buds not just on the tops but all the way down my plants. It also comes with a double ended figure eight light cord with plenty of slack to reach the full extension of the arm/light stand. This is of course something that A/G doesn't tell us because they wern't designed to grow M/J and they know big brother is watching an they're scared shitless of him. Good luck my friend.
