aeroponic cloner roots coming from stem inside foam insert

I'm I doing something wrong? Here are some pictures.

i have cloned for years using jiffy pellets, with great success. Aero cloner just seemed cleaner and easier, I used a new scalpel, sterilized it with 91% rubbing alcohol, made 90 cut (I usually scape sides of cuttings myself, aero instructions told me not to scrape sides, I did some of both), dipped it in rooting gel (always poured into separate dish), used tap water. Temp 72 as per picture. Back 2 rows were cut 17 days ago, the others more recent.

the only thing I could think of was possibly, my placement of the cutting in the insert. I thought it was a fluke, but a second one started as well.
I'm happy it rooted, but I'm obviously doing something wrong.

Longer stems/bigger cuttings. I try to get 2-3 nodes under the insert usually leaving around 2"
Using a gel in an aero cloner is counter productive. Its washed off as soon as it comes on. Pick a rooting hormone thats meant to be added to the water and forgo the gel.
It looks like they are from a plant that was in flower? Usually they take considerable longer to root.

Good to see you're up and posting, friend.

But it's true, taking cuts during flower is a hard thing to do. It can take what feels like forever to finally root. At least, like you said, they did root.
