AeroPonic Cloner, Sprayer Q/A

Hey guys, I have been thinking about something for a while, and that is the sprayer used in an Aeroponic Cloner system.

I have read mixed inforamation regarding how small the water droplets have to be to be effective.

The general rule of thumb I have heard is the smaller the better, but the issue I see with the very fine mist sprayers is that they can get clogged, and for the most part do.

So with out having to acutally shell out the money for a fogger, how do I decide the best sprayer for an aeroponic cloner or just an aeroponic grow system?

From my experience, smaller droplets are better, but a directional spray is going to saturate its target anyway, so the small drops just mix with the water that's already there. I use fine mists when foliar feeding, but the typical aero sprayer works fine for cloning and aero grows.

Foggers are not expensive. $20-$40 USD. they can be more problematic though, as the disks develop buildup and may corrode.

Could you recomend a good brand, or rather, one that you would use?

And would using bottled distilled water, or getting an R/O system help prevent the build up?

I run two, one's a jet-gro, the other I made, don't worry too much about droplet size.

ok, thanks for the info. I don't have a need for one yet, but I will soon. I started a (yet to be determined) strain from seed, that will be my mother plant to clone from. ( hopeing it's female, otherwise I will just have a big green plant that smells like pot)

i have an ultrasonic fogger from sunlight sheds and was using it for a cloner but all 30 of my babies went flat limp...so that day i took all the parts from my cool cab that i retired and the dwc tub and made an aeroponic cloner. i ditched the fogger and just made the sprayer from pvc and rainbird mist heads from home depot and within hours they sprang to life and became rigid and green now all of them are perfect. my droplets are pretty darn heavy and i have a constant stream of water coming off the stems under the lid since i run the 396gph sub pump 24/7. i just use ph 5.5 water and 1.4 ml per liter of 35% h2o2 and so far so good. they are 3-4 days old right now and no nubs yet but i'm being patient. i may do the whole timer thing but i think i'm good as is...the way those babies responded spoke volumes. however i may still yet find a use for my fogger. since i'm running nute free in the cloner, no build up!

Also, in a cloner system, do you think I should use distilled water or would tap water ph'ed at 5.5 be good enough?

I use RO, 1/4 str. nutes, keep pH below 6.0

i have tried both tap and ro in a ez cloner. for me tap water seems to work best. when i cut the clones I dip them in root tech and use 10 ml per gallon of root 66. ph the water to 6 and let them do their thing. during the warmer months i use a chiller with my cloner to keep the water @ 75%. 100% every time.

i would say i suck but they're so pretty...just no roots. crap

All of your posts look good, this is the first time I have used the aero cloner with the neoprene collars and I just followed dirt bag brain's cloning formula. He uses the Dip And Grow, costs 7.95 for 2oz, 15 to one water mix. This picture is at one week. VV

ok...well that makes me feel better, I was worried...all i read is ..."my aero cloner/ezcloner rooted em' in 3-5 days etc,etc...i am anxious

ya i tried it al's way and kept killing set after set 25-30 at a time...was gettin old. i kept reading about these damn miracle cloners and farted around the diy section and viola!!! i remember you from a bunch of al's threads and i've read many of yours and happen to have quite a bit of respect for your growing knowledge. i'm also runnin s.o.g. based off al...i know your doin it your own way and thats cool, i just stuck with the plan to play it safe...newb thanks for stopping in!

sometimes it takes mine 10 - 14 days when they're lagging.

i actually use tap water. the ppm of my tap is fairly low, and the chlorine helps keep the baddies at bay. i use some superthrive and some grow big, but very minute concentrations.

i want to build one of the cloners but have a few question does the water spray the bottom of the clone? do you use the root cloner dips? thanks jeff

happy to help...yes the water sprays upward toward the bottom of the clones, kinda showers the underside of the lid.

It does spray the bottoms. If you are going to use a cloning dip, make sure it is a gel kind. it stays on the plant longer.
