Hey everyone. I am seting up a 400w hps aircooled reflector with lens. I had a question. Where do I place the fans??? I have two fans both are inline fans rated at 250 cfm. Do I put one on each side of the light, one blowing, one sucking. Any other suggestions on this subject???Thanx for everyones help in advance.:joint:

What kind of inline fan?

If so... that is not really the kind of fan you want... axial fans loos cfm too easily, they are meant to be boosters in the ducts...

Now, if you have 2x 250 cfm centrifugal fans... likes this... you will only need one... BLOWING air through the light...

depends on how your rooms are situated but no just run one fan through the tube. It should bring air in from outside through ducting and push the hot bulb air out. for the other fan, you can have it push air into the grow area, or out. Just remember if youre pulling hot air out have the fan on the top of the area and make sure you have a hole to let more air in, you dont wannt air pressure

This should help illustrate...

Keep in mind the "intake blower" is only necessary in some cases...

What if I have the axial fans, will two work instead of the centrifugal, I cant afford the price diff??? If they will work, where should I place them???

Well... they will loose umph! real fast... That is why folks stay away from those type of fans...

But I guess try it as you said, one on each side...

I doubt they will work as good as one centrifugal fan, but is deff. worth a try since you have them...

I'd try one blowing and one sucking as you suggested...

Good Luck...

Be on the lookout for Dayton squirrel cage blowers. There are deals around, just gotta look and be patient. Plus in my opinion they will out do a centi fan of the same cfm rating hands down.

How exactly does it "outdo" a centrifugal fan?

I have always known Squirrel cage fans to work just as good, but be a little louder...

I am curious about your statement... :joint::peace:

Yes louder but if hug by bungies then actually pretty quite. As far as out doing I think the daytons are much stronger when it comes to pushing air thru long duct runs. They do not lose nearly as much efficiency. Thats just my humble opinion.
Plus the savings is a big plus also. Got my 135 and 465 off ebay new, both with shipping under $75.00

wow.. that sounds pretty good... you should hook homie up with a link...

I've always known them to be of similar performance, but I have never done a scientific test to see.. so you may be right...

Cheers...:joint::peace:

Homie should just search ebay for dayton blowers. Mine were from a private seller. I looked a bit and there are some decent deals on ebay right now. Many for under 50 bucks.

omg don't get someone started on the pushing pulling argument, or is it to late. imo set-up ur system however you like, jus make sure to move air(hot).:joint:

I hear you...

I like new with warranty though...

Used is always a gamble... and I don't gamble... money's too expensive...;-)

i ended it before it started, u may run with it though.
Funny...

i'm a pusher, i like my fan to not endure the heat from the lights.
just as suggested... did you see the drawing?

The exception being the 2 shitty axial fans... I say it's better to put one at each end... thinking of loss of cfm and disregarding fan life, as this is a temprary solution... he is already looking for a real fan...;-)

I guess you missed it, but the point has totally shifted from arranging the crappy fans to getting a better one that will do the job right...
