Air pulsed hydroponic unit

i found this patent online, was wondering if anyone had seen it implemented? i will have to try it either way.

I spent some time googling it because i couldn't find where i put my tubing; i guess they are called air lift pumps and are used in dirty wells and such where they can't have moving parts. they say the flow rate is weak compared to the amount of air it takes so i'm not sure if it would be effective to adapt it to a small hydro setup.
