AK-48 Red D grow journal

hello all i have been a member of this community for almost a year now and found it funny that i never did make a grow journal

i have been growing for about a year now for personal use and live on the sole principal of quality>quantity.

these seeds were germinated on 12/26/08 and were kept in relative stasis until jan 27. IE low light

the orginal purpose of this grow was breeding. however to my disappointment i did not get any males

because i dont love where i grow i have an automated watering system that required minimun matinence. i feed them 1 time a weekthats all i do rest is on timers.


SPecs:
400w HPS (cool tube 8 in away)
pro-mix BX
flora- nova grow and bloom
3 gal pots
both stains are being gown with max LST

i am going to have to ask that you guys put up with the shitty cell phone pics i have nothing better atm


STRAIN INFO:
ice+skunk1=ak-48 from what i was told
nycd+cali indica=red d(improved yeilds)

AK-48 is a very fast grower and sutiable for breeding applications. i feed her a much higher PPM then the red D

this post will contail Veg pics

pics will be in assending order

at 6-7 weeks of veg plants were shifted to flower cycle

i continued to feed them with veg for the first 2 weeks. as you can see once i got past the deficenicies she totally exploded with growth.

now that i have a ppm meter i can accurately give out desired levels of nutes.
week 1 of flower: 1250 ppm
week 2: 1550 ppm

i am supprised to see to see that after only 18 days of flower she has that much bud growth.

whit all this said anyone here ever grow AK-48 or red d?

damn dem bitches are big!!!! any concerns about the yellow leaves on your first set of pics? My plants are doing that alittle (one of them looks like a mini one of yours). I am thinking of flowering under a 150hps or something (money is wide tight right now) or at worst case, 2700k CFL's with my same setup, 2 per plant.

gonna try and learn from you, you going pro-mix with nutes, shit I am a noob, the only thing I have grown is patience

ya the reason that there was some yellowing on them is because they started out in a cheeply build grow room while i waited for my other grow to finish. so naturally i did not attend to them very much.

once i could get them into the real grow room they took off. that+ my attetion brought them back.

if you have any questions i know alot abut cannabis ecology so ask away espically if your just getting rdy to grow

Nice grow man. The AK-48 crank! ... My last grow went well. Moving onto other strains now though. But she was good quality for reasonably priced seeds!

These were grown in soil (10L pots) - I think that was week 7 out of 8 and a half weeks total? - Can't really remember, smoked too much of it lol

It's a reasonably fast finisher, typical 8 week strain really... Had the odd Indica dominant pheno that could of been harvested in 7 weeks, especially in a hydro system. And had some phenos that could easily go for 10 weeks. That's the only thing with Nirvana seeds, they have very variable phenos, this is bad when you want an even crop, but good when you're looking for a plant to make into a mother!

Anyway, this is my setup basically:

- Room measures about 1.2m x 1.2x x 2m (tall) ... All ballast sit outside the room near the exhaust so they get a bit of air coolage going on haha.
- Walls are covered in Panda Plastic - a plastic sheet that is white on one side and black on the other.
- Running a 200mm passive air intake near ground level and a 250mm Centrifugal for the exhaust which has some ducting hanging near the light to take out some of that heat, the exhaust is mounted on the roof of the box.
- Have 2 (15cm) wall mounted fans (just like desk fans screwed to the wall haha) - They're for air circulation and are just generally pointed toward the plants.

- Lights for vegetative growth are just 400W Metal halide (and standard ballast)
- Lights for flowering are 600W High Pressure Sodium run on a digital ballast (with turbo mode - although I'm still not convinced turbo mode actually does anything, but digital ballasts can run both MH and HPS bulbs without needing any special/expensive conversion equipment or bulbs - so I can veg with a 600W MH instead of 400 if I want - Which I may well do if I'm going to be vegging for only 1-2 weeks in future!)

- And I have a dehumidifier for late flowering when rH get a bit too high.

I think that's pretty much the vibe...

Soil was a homemade mix:

5 parts Canadian Sphagnum Peat Moss
3 parts Perlite
2 parts Worm Castings
2 tablespoons per gallon (3.78L) Pulverized Dolomite Lime

Nutrients:

The Earth Juice Range ... Grow, Bloom, Microblast, Catalyst (Didn't use the Meta-K at all - never do lol)
Water - Out the tap ... Comes out about pH 7-8, closer to 7 though.

The high is pretty sweet. Aroma not as strong as the original AK-47, I quite like the high, don't need to smoke a lot to get well blazed. Awesome bong smoke! ... Not to heavy on the body, head gets into the clouds a bit, pretty good for doing outdoor activities or rocking the PS3/XBOX lol

My only advice is in the last 2 weeks of watering, pump them full of water. They can handle a decent amount of dry when they're vegging, early-mid flowering keep them well moist, but late flowering just pump that water into them (without getting root rot of course lol) - They'll drink it up and swell up real nice and quick

went through a few before i found one that was done close to 48 days... but all of the phenos were fast and took a beating....

dam ya got me excited that im growing ak48...green phoenix: how do you think it will pefrom in a dwc system sog??it should be much faster right?

hemlock: PERFECT plants..did you flower them under that fluro system?if so,what were the yields...

oh and to all whove grown it,is the aroma really that STRONG...im not planning on using any air filters..so...

i cool tube is the best option for 400w

also take the sides off the HTGsupply reflector they cause heat build up.
have a fan pull air away from the light not blowing on it. try to stabalise the temps down to 75-80

thnkz man +rep..yea the 400 hps didnt work out lol..i had to take it down and put the t5 the next day..all my plants were severely drooping,obvoisly to the heat and maybe the intenstity...i started them off with the light bulb around 16 inches off the plants canopy..was this too close?should i start the 400 hps around 2-3 feet away,and gradually move them closer?....

as for the heat,i have 2 options...

1.use a duct booster fan and some ducting to suck the hot air near the bulb itself...no fancy aircooled reflectors...just hang the ducting very close to the hps bulb,and then have the cheap 6 in booster fan suck the hot air and keep it running as long as the light is./..

2.build a diy cooltube with pyrex bake a round,4 in ducting,and a cheap 4 in booster fan....this is obvoisly my best option,but will cost more,and im short on cash...also,im confused on how to hook the hps bulb so that it doesnt fall and lean on the glass.....

which will be my best option?ember,this will be a quick fix,as soon as im done with this grow,ima step it up top a vortex centrifugal fan,and a dwc system..this is just to get my feet wet,and choose a mother plant for my future sog dwc perpetual grows...ya digg??

thanks man!, used a 400w T5 flouro for flower, topped them (left 4-6 main branches left) at maybe 12"? and cutt off the bottom 1/3 a week into flowering.
used fox farm soil, ff food, and ff heavy ferts. CO2 bottle fed.

before Co2 i was getting 6-9oz off that light and on that grow (the last one) i got about 7-8oz off the 12 ak you see, i think it could have been better but it got really too dry at the end of the grow.

the phenos i played with smelled the same for the most part, and didnt really smell too much in flower at all even when you rub up against it. (my ww all you have to do is touch it an ur arm smells like skunk) taste wise i noticed 2 differences in the phenos, one more earthy/deisel/pine and one thats softer/fruity... the deisel one was the fastest and had the best bud structure.. i like the fruity one too just had shorter buds, more leaf, and took longer
