All COB Users - Lettuce Grow Challenge!!

May be slow growth, but looks like some text book lettuce to me. The advice I got seems pretty confident that the problems people are having is just due to too much light. This person is saying you have to get your daily light integral down around 17 which is a little more than half what is suggested for cannabis and should work out to around 20000 lux @ 18 hours per day. I am going to go ahead and add in the full spectrum cob because I don't think it will hurt, but I was also told that optimal far red is going to vary for each type of lettuce.
I need to get hip to figuring out the Blue/Red ratio in my panel. I have no red diodes so I am sure it is blue heavy - So why no red coloration appearing on this lettuce but yet Vero 18 3500K made red lettuce ?

I'm no expert, of course, but from what I have read too much blue to red can cause slower leaf growth and excessive coloration in the absence of far red. One of the videos I posted, I think concluded that the blue to red ratio should be near equal and far red should stay a bit under the red. However, that other person is telling me the warm white COB spectrum is fine as long as the light levels are kept low enough. Maybe if you want to push the light levels a bit with lettuce it requires some far red supplementation, I don't know.

Edit: Got my light set up with two CLU048-1212 COBs. The full spectrum won't be in for a week or so. With this configuration, I can get around 20000 lux, 20" above the surface at about 1.33A. I will probably raise it when I add the full spectrum in the middle to try to get better coverage.
Can't post JPG from Dropbox?

Yes, 2 CLU048-1212s @ 4000k.
Spacecraft is good.. I guess? LOL
Spacecraft IS good! hahahah

I've been wondering exactly about those cobs you're using, i have a hunch that's the best single-solution spectrum for lettuce, i'm following your grow closely =]

Cheers!

Cool, I am getting good sunlight for most of the day though, and will probably only be running the light from 3 or 4 PM to the end of my lighting period. I am going to start with 12/12 and maybe work up from there. I don't want to exceed the DLI. If I see similar problems others have reported here, I also have a full spectrum COB I can add in to widen the spectrum a bit more. I also had a hunch that the spectrum of these 4000k COBs could be a nice fit since it is pretty balanced Blue/Red and has that bump in green.

edit: Proper seedlings will be going in starting Sunday. These are just test dummies they have too many seeds germinated in them. The seedlings I will add in each week will each have just two seeds.

We are dying to see that Bad Boy run as a sole lighting source :hump:

"The Sauce" is making compact party cup sized heads of lettuce. I am not embarrassed to say the light is a big POS

Not growing fucking lettuce, waste of time for me, got other more important shit to grow. Like Cannabis, Kratom, and San Pedro Cacti. Someone do Tasty.

..What the fuck is that shit..?

You don't have to wait a cycle to add it, either.
It's a "full spectrum" COB. I got it because it would make a wider spectrum if the white COB spectrum is missing something lettuce likes. I am waiting a cycle to see how the lettuce likes the white COBs first.

Pretty sure their spectrum is going to be closer to the sun than blurple boards. It'll only be a positive addition.

How's that Kraton and Mister Pedro going?
Getting either a Rifat or Bumblebee cut on or around the 30th, and the San Pedros are doing excellent. Compared to my friend's sungrown cacti, my cacti have larger needles and are growing much faster.

Probably, but some people have had problems growing lettuce with white COBs so I think it's worthwhile to do a run with each. I'm guessing there will at least be some differences. Maybe more or less color in the lettuce and I am growing a red leaf romaine and a green leaf lettuce. I think it will be interesting either way.

It's ready to go with its own boost converter.
