Wow! Yours are way fuller. Honestly i messed up a few things this first lettuce challenge that throws my findings off a bit.
One major one was neglect & overwhelming amount of indoor letti for too long. They were drying out fast. I was constantly finding wilted leaves & whole letti that don't snap back like a pott plant.
Its been 45 days since planting or sprouting our seeds already? If so I'm way off cuz I'm over here thinking i can still transplant the Amare + HGL, 6" potts. The Grean Bicycles arrived super quick again. I don't know how he does it. Big Thanks To Patrick!!!
Few mess-ups by me the first time veggie grower:
- planted wrong, meaning i had to thin out lettuce rather then cut surrounding. Did not know those roots shot down so fast in the 16oz. Cups & accidentally chopped the first x8 or so down to an 1" or maybe 1.5" with a spoon, scooping when i should have dumped the whole cup out to thin them, leaving fullest roots as possible. They break easily too.
- Did not increase the ppfd by 50 to 100 until the other day. Not sure if the spot light section increased or decreased but removing the 3k for the winged high K may have been a mistake, reducing chances for bigger lettuce maybe. Allot less red.
- Wrong transplant pott size out of the cups.
This aint pott plants vegging for x2 months, ya know! Haha! Guess i didn't, even know i did. Lol!
Last but not least
- I suck!
But we'll deffinetly go at it again right after this. And this time I'm going x2 spectrums of my choice as its obvious plain white LED's are out of the competition. I did not even give them the full chance cuz i added the purple thingies. But they are very full as are the HGL. Making them both look like a high-density scrumptious treat but not full wrap letti. Small potts did not help.
Barely had time to write that so will get a tape on them asap.
Nice Lettuce bro. We know T-5 nails it.

Nice looking lettuce guys. Hope I can catch up and enjoy some of a harvest soon enough. Here's my update though at a little more than three weeks from sprout. Clover and fenugreek are a bit thick, but I'll get in there and cut some back soon. Also not sure what to do about these random melon plants that are taking over too.. kales n spinach all seem to be doing well though, just need to free them up some space I think..

Very nice variety there & set-up.
Yeah, i made the mistake of cramming my lettuce. Think they would have done allot better with a little space.

Yea it's a medley of shit in there, but thank you. Next go round I'll get the 2 gallon pots back out and go 1-2 per pot and just focus on the greens, minimal cover crop too. I'll use the cover crops as a mulch or feed the worms or make a tea out of them for the vegging plants. It's all in good fun for me.

Cover crops? Like clovers? I heard they feed the plant N , some source of food or something good? I dunno shite about real organic growing.

I wish I could be a better source of info for organics for you, but I'm about as inexperienced with it as I am led lights hah. I think it is a nitrogen fixing plant though, which I haven't really looked into that much, but I think that means it can take nitrogen from the air and somehow feed that via some nodules on it's roots back into the soil. Please don't quote this, but maybe you can look into it further. I planted these cover crops more so as a living mulch though. the clover/fenugreek is in each pot just to help cover the surface area to help with moisture retention and to get the rhizosphere microbes back into action. When I do chop the cover crop, it will either get composted through the worm bin or I may steep them in water for a few days, strain, and use that as a nutrient feed. I really just kind of do things on a whim and see how it all plays out in the end though, so who knows what'll happen.

Thanks! That sounds like a great idea to have a cover-crop. OHD & i have discussed my lack of ability to keep the topsoil moist as I'm ised to feeding soil-less media. He uses straw i think right @OneHitDone ?
But i can see other advantages to it too depending on what is used.

Been using straw on the cannabis but just bare soil on the lettuce. The seem to leaf out rather quick and the soil becomes fully shaded anyways.

Yeah, ima have to use straw or something & bump up to 10 gall potts probably. Not Hay, but Straw!... lol!
Naw, could never plant cover crop on lettuce. Maybe a lil straw but the leaves completely cover the dirt so idk if its necessary at all with lettuce. Id say not.

Ok, brother OHD, here you go my friend. What i have after spreading them apart. They were crammed the whole time & ill do that differently next time. Same with the little 6" potts. I feel that stunted things a bit by drying/wilting so much & maybe having less food available by dirt.
Pleasantly surprised by all x3 spectrums to be honest.
Gettin ready to hand out organic lettuce for gifts! Lol! Can't wait to make a salad. Should be already as they grow hu?

Its just my interpretation of a simple aeroponic system inspired by this:

First time trying it other than making a few clones earlier this year. Have a couple of small leaks at the top of the cups, not sure how to deal with them
